No. 9 Women's Soccer With Road Shutout Win Over Clarke

Dubuque, Iowa, (Sept. 13, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer traveled to Dubuque, Iowa for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Clarke (Iowa), Saturday.  The No. 9 women's team pulled away for a 3-0 win.  After falling behind early, the No. 14 men's team played No. 20 Clarke to a 2-2 tie.

Play in the women's game started with Missouri Valley creating early chances on goal.  With nearly four minutes played, Senior Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa (Sevilla, Spain) had a shot saved, then put another shot on goal ten minutes later that was saved by the Pride keeper.  The save led to a loose-ball inside the CU box, and Senior Forward Silvia Maldonado (Madrid, Spain) scored the opening goal moments later to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.  The two teams traded possession through the remainder of the half, as neither team could produce another quality chance.  Missouri Valley went into halftime holding the one-goal advantage.

The Vikings built up pressure to open play in the second half, and Senior Defender Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) tested the Clarke keeper with a shot, which was saved less than two minutes after the restart.  Just over six minutes later, Sophomore Midfielder Irene Alvaro Sabate (Madrid, Spain) put a shot on goal, but the CU keeper made another save.  Missouri Valley continued to keep possession in its offensive side of the field, and Senior Defender Ana Rendon (Medellin, Colombia) set up Ferre with a chance on goal.  Ferre scored on the shot, and made it a 2-0 lead with nearly 10 minutes played in the half.  Quickly after the ensuing restart, MVC pressured the CU keeper again, and Sophomore Midfielder Fabiana Vasquez (Isla Margarita, Venezuela) assisted on a goal from Senior Forward Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) to stretch the lead out to 3-0.  Missouri Valley put another two shots on goal over the next stretch of play, but both attempts were saved.  Clarke was held to no shots on goal through the entire contest, and the Vikings earned a 3-0 victory.

Maldonado now has two goals and two game-winning goals on the season.  Ferre leads the team with four goals and eight points, while Arribas scored her first goal of the season.  Senior Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain) and Junior Goalkeeper Lola Martinez Benitez (Madrid, Spain) combined for the team's second shutout of the season.  Missouri Valley held a 14-3 advantage in total shots and earned six corner kicks.

The win moves Missouri Valley to 4-0-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Heart, while Clarke falls to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams go to Fayette, Mo., for a Heart doubleheader against Central Methodist (Mo.).  The No. 9 Viking women's soccer team plays the No. 21 Eagles at 5 p.m., followed by the No. 14 men's team playing at 7:30 p.m.
