Women's Basketball Suffers Home Loss to Culver-Stockton

Marshall, Mo. (Jan. 14, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's basketball teams hosted Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday evening inside the Burns Athletic Complex.  The women's team fell by a 67-50 final score, while the men's team held off the Wildcats late for a 72-65 win.

The women's game started with Missouri Valley going in front early, as Senior Center Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain) opened with a layup, then a Sophomore Forward Lexi Fenstermacher (O'Fallon, Mo.) steal led to a Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) basket to make it a 4-0 score with one minute off the clock.  Reeter followed with back-to-back three-point field goals, and both Freshman Forward Bianca Sarbu (Bucharest, Romania) and Fenstermacher each added one layup to put the advantage at 14-5 midway through the quarter.  Culver-Stockton followed with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to move in front, 15-14.  Junior Guard Jozelynn Bostick (Centralia, Mo.) ended the MVC drought moments later with a basket, and Ortiz had another layup to tie the teams at 18-18 with just over one minute remaining.  The Wildcats closed the quarter on another run, scoring the final seven points to move ahead, 25-18, after hitting a buzzer-beating shot.

The deficit grew at the start of the second quarter for the Vikings, as CSC eventually led, 33-20, with just over three minutes played.  Reeter answered with a layup, while Bostick added another basket midway through the quarter to make it a 35-24 score.  Culver-Stockton continued to stay in front, and eventually held a 41-24 advantage with just over three minutes to play in the half.  Missouri Valley went on an 8-0 over the next two minutes of play, all scored by Reeter, to close the gap.  Both teams went scoreless over the final stretch of play in the quarter, and MVC trailed at halftime, 41-32.

The third quarter began with Missouri Valley held scoreless through more than three minutes of play, and the team facing a 45-32 deficit.  Freshman Guard Alice Lepetitgaland (Lyon, France) ended the drought with a three-pointer, but CSC eventually sat in front, 52-35 at the four-minute mark.  Scoring through the rest of the quarter featured two made three-pointers by Reeter and one Ortiz free throw as the Vikings fell behind by a 58-42 score going into the fourth quarter.  Missouri Valley was unable to close its deficit down to single-digits in the final quarter of play, and fell by a 67-50 final score.

Reeter led with 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting from the floor, and 6 of 9 on three-pointers.  Ortiz added seven points and five rebounds.  Missouri Valley shot over 45-percent from the field.

Missouri Valley drops to 10-7 overall and 7-3 in the Heart.  Culver-Stockton improves to 12-6 on the season and 6-4 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking basketball teams will host Mount Mercy (Iowa) in a Heart doubleheader, Saturday afternoon inside the Burns Athletic Complex.  Women's game starts at 12 p.m., followed by the men's game at 2 p.m.
