No. 4 Men's Volleyball Advances to National Semifinals With Sweep Over No. 5 Campbellsville

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, (April 30, 2026)- The No. 4 Missouri Valley College men's volleyball team finished play in Pool D at the 2026 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a Thursday evening contest against No. 5 Campbellsville (Ky.).  The Vikings swept to victory by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 and advanced into the National semifinals.

 

Game one began with Missouri Valley going in front early, using a four-point run that featured one kill apiece from Sophomore Middle Blocker Martin Tseyera (Salta, Argentina) and Junior Outside Hitter Frederico Baptista (Esmoriz, Portugal) to make it a 4-1 score.  The Vikings gradually built on its lead over the next stretch, helped by three kills from Senior Opposite Luca Hasse (Paderborn, Germany), two kills by Freshman Outside Hitter Loan Fargier (Bordeaux, France) and one kill with an ace from Junior Middle Blocker Joao Taveres (Parana, Brazil) to hold a 12-6 advantage.  Missouri Valley eventually sat on top, 15-9 following one kill from both Hasse and Baptista.  The two teams traded the next several points as Tavares finished off another kill and an ace to put the score at 20-14.  Two late Hasse kills, and another kill from Baptista moved MVC to game-point, and the pair of Hasse and Tavares teamed up on a block to seal a victory in game one, 25-18.

 

The two teams traded points at the start of the second game.  Fargier and Hasse each finished off two kills while Sophomore Setter Leonardo Goncalves (Ribierao Preto, Brazil) added an ace and the pair of Hasse and Taveres worked together on a block to keep Missouri Valley on top, 6-4.  One more kill each from Hasse and Fargier made it an 8-5 score, but Campbellsville worked back to tie the teams at 11-11.  The Vikings followed by taking five of the next six points, featuring two kills from Tavares and one kill from both Baptista and Hasse to send MVC ahead, 16-12.  The Tigers cut into their deficit, and eventually trailed, 18-17.  Hasse responded with back-to-back kills, then Fargier added a kill to stretch the advantage out to 22-18.  Campbellsville closed the gap to 22-20 late in the game, while one more kill by both Hasse and Tavares moved Missouri Valley to game-point.  The Vikings held off CU late, and used a Baptista kill to win the game, 25-22, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

 

Campbellsville jumped out to an early lead in the third game, taking five of the opening six points.  Missouri Valley worked back to a 7-6 deficit as Hasse and Baptista both put down kills, while Baptista teamed up with Tavares on a block.  Another three-point run, featuring one kill from both Tavares and Fargier, helped tie the teams at 9-9.  Campbellsville responded and won four of five points midway through the game to go back on top, 14-11.  The Vikings eventually trailed by a 15-12 score before making a run.  Four CU errors to go with two kills by Hasse helped Missouri Valley win six-straight points to move ahead, 18-15.  Campbellsville came back to win the next three points and tie the teams once again at 18-18.  Baptista broke a tie moments later, with a kill to send MVC in front, 21-20.  Campbellsville then won the next three points to hold a 23-21 lead.  The Vikings closed out the game from there, as three-straight CU errors helped the team reach match-point.  Fargier then ended the contest with one final kill for a 25-23 win in the game, and a sweep in the match.

 

Hasse led with a double-double of 18 kills, on a .389 hitting percentage, and 10 digs.  Fargier added a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs.  Goncalves led with 36 assists, and added seven digs.  Missouri Valley totaled six blocks and three aces.

 

The win moves Missouri Valley to 25-5 on the season, while Campbellsville falls to 28-4.

 

Missouri Valley wins Pool D and advances into the National semifinal round for the second-straight season.  The Vikings will play at 4 p.m., Friday in the semifinals against No. 1 Park (Mo).  The Vikings fell to Park in both regular season meetings, and dropped a five-game match in the Heart Postseason Championship final.
