No. 11 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Past Culver-Stockton on the Road

Canton, Mo., (March 13, 2025)-The No. 11 Missouri Valley College men's volleyball team traveled to Canton, Mo., Thursday evening for a Heart of America Athletic Conference South Division match with Culver-Stockton (Mo.).  The Vikings swept the Wildcats by scores of 25-18, 25-20, 25-18.

 

Game one started with Missouri Valley going in front early with a block from Freshman Outside Hitter Tymoteusz Zadeberny (Gliwice, Poland) as the first point of the game.  Zadeberny added one kill and two aces over the next stretch as the lead grew to 6-1.  After the two teams traded points through a 9-5 score, the Vikings put together a run.  Zadeberny teamed up with Freshman Setter Matheus Curi (Ribierao Preto, Brazil) and Freshman Outside Hitter Jackson Gonzalez on a block, while Gonzalez put down one ace and one kill.  Senior Setter Lucas Rodrigues  (Balnelariu Cambriu, Brazil) added another block as MVC won seven of eight points to hold a double-digit advantage at 16-6.  Junior Opposite Vasil Stoimenov (Pazardzhik, Bulgaria) put down two kills late in the game, and teamed up with Senior Libero Ruben Baquero (Madrid, Spain) on a block.  Missouri Valley maintained its lead throughout, and earned a 25-18 win.  The Vikings hit at a match-high .455 percentage in the game.

 

The two teams traded points early in the second game, as Stoimenov and Freshman Middle Blocker Martin Tseyera (Salta, Argentina) teamed up on a block and Zadeberny put down an ace.  The first kill of the game came from Freshman Outside Hitter Guillerme Lorenzini (Florianopolis, Brazil), followed by a block by Curi and Jackson to give Missouri Valley an 11-8 lead.  Stoimenov had two kills, while Gonzales, Lorenzini and Zadeberny added one kill each through a 17-13 score.  Three-straight Culver-Stockton errors stretched the advantage out to 20-14.  One kill from Lorenzini and Zadeberny put MVC at game-point, and one more kill from Tseyera finished out game two, 25-18, in favor of the Vikings.

 

Going for the sweep in game three, Missouri Valley gradually built up an early lead, as Lorenzini and Sophomore Outside Hitter Pierro Porras (Lima, Peru) put down one kill each, and Tseyera added two kills to help make it a 9-5 score.  The two teams traded points until an ace from Lorenzini and one kill from Stoimenov put the advantage at 16-11.  Missouri Valley held its lead throughout the rest of the game, as CSC was unable to close to within three points.  Stoimenov had a late kill, then Porras and Tseyera finished off a block for match-point.  A late service error by the Wildcats ended the game, 25-20, and gave Missouri Valley the sweep.

 

Zadeberny led with seven kills, on a .462 percentage, while Stoimenov had six kills, on a .455 percentage, and Lorezini added six kills.  Freshman Setter Bruno Olivera Mroczek (Curitiba, Brazil) led with 15 assists, while Curi added 13 assists.  Missouri Valley finished off 11 total blocks, and put down five aces.  

 

The win moves Missouri Valley to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the Heart.  Culver-Stockton drops to 1-18 on the season and 0-9 in the conference.

 

Up next, the Viking men's volleyball team hosts No. 9 Park (Mo.) in a Heart South Division match, Saturday at 2 p.m. inside the Burns Athletic Complex.
