No. 25 Men's Soccer Defeats Hannibal La-Grange at Home

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 30, 2025)- The No. 25 Missouri Valley College men's team hosted Hannibal La-Grange (Mo.) for a non-conference game, Tuesday evening inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.  The Vikings scored early in the second half to earn a 1-0 victory.

Play opened with the two teams trading possessions early. The first chance on goal came nearly 10-minutes into the game, as the Trojans had two shots on target that were saved by Senior Goalkeeper Tom Youden (London, England).  Missouri Valley eventually had its shot on goal five minutes later as Senior Forward Shiko Kiyomiya (Tokyo, Japan) tested Hannibal-LaGrange's keeper, but his shot was saved.  The Vikings kept up the pressure with back-to-back corner kicks, and a header from Senior Defender Ilian Stoehr (Frankfurt, Germany) that was blocked near the 18-minute mark.  With 17-minutes remaining, Youden came up with a save to keep the Trojans scoreless.  The two teams continued trading possession through the rest of the first half, as both teams struggled to create clear chances.  Missouri Valley had the final opportunity with six minutes left, as Freshman Forward Felipe Delcorco (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a header that went high, and went into halftime scoreless.

Missouri Valley came out after the break and pressured the HLGU defense.  Sophomore Midfielder Yannick Muller (Dietmannsried, Germany) set up Sophomore Midfielder Alexander Ulmen (Lund, Sweden) with the header just over 3-minutes after the restart to give the Vikings the lead, 1-0.  Teams traded possession over the next 15-minutes until Sophomore Midfielder Rodrigo Diaz (Chicago, Ill.) had a shot that was blocked.  Midway through the half, MVC built up pressure, producing two attempts each from Kiyomiya and Sophomore Midfielder Bartomeu Trias (Palma de Mallorca, Spain). The two teams traded possession through the final stretch of play, until the 85-minute mark, where Sophomore Midfielder Ethan Quarchioni (Bournemouth, England) had a shot on goal that was saved.  The Vikings finished out the rest of the time remaining, and secured a 1-0 victory.

Ulmen scored his third goal of the season. Muller added his sixth assist and Youden made three saves in goal. Missouri Valley held an 11-4 advantage in shots and created seven corner kicks.

Missouri Valley improves to 4-3-3 on the season, while Hannibal La-Grange drops to 3-6-2 overall.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams will host Park (Mo.) in a Heart doubleheader, Saturday evening inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium. The women's game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
