No. 8 Women's Wrestling Produces Three Champions at Midland Warrior Open
Fremont, Neb., (Feb. 8, 2025)- The No. 8 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team competed at Midland (Neb.) Warrior Open, Saturday. The Vikings competed against programs for multiple collegiate divisions. Leading the team was Freshman Xochitl Mota-Pettis who won at 131 pounds, and Junior Zoey Smalley and Senior Elizabeth Hubbard tied for first place at 180 pounds.

No. 3 Freshman Xochitl Mota-Pettis-131 pounds:
First Round: Defeated Caxton Smyth of Northwest Kansas Tech in a 10-0 technical fall.
Second Round: Defeated Brianna Gaytan of Midland (Neb.) in a 10-0 technical fall.
Quarterfinal: Defeated Mackenzie Armagost of Sioux Falls (S.D.) in a first period (1:37) pin.
Semifinal: Defeated No. 17 Bryce White of Oklahoma City in a 10-0 technical fall.
First Place Match: Defeated Piper Cadden of Fort Hays (Kan.) in a 14-2 technical fall.
Mota-Pettis won at 131 pounds.
Junior Zoey Smalley (Winston, Ore.)-180 pounds:
First Round: Defeated Maeli Howard of Snow (Utah) in a first period (2:05) pin.
Quarterfinal: Defeated Yazmin Belk of Doane (Neb.) in a second period (5:18) pin.
Semifinal: Defeated No. 14 Bailee Nelson of Friends (Kan.) in a 10-0 technical fall.
First Place Match: Finished by mutual forfeit against teammate Elizabeth Hubbard.
Smalley tied for first place with teammate Hubbard at 180 pounds.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Rose Latta of Kansas State in an 8-0 decision.

Hubbard tied for first place with teammate Smalley at 180 pounds.

Third Place Match: Defeated Bailee Cahs of Iowa Western CC in a second period (3:42) pin.
Pineda placed third at 110 pounds.
