No. 10 Women's Wrestling Tops No. 18 Central Methodist in Road Dual

Fayette, Mo. (Feb. 5, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's wrestling teams traveled to Fayette, Mo., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference dual doubleheader, Wednesday evening. The No. 18 men's team earned a 22-14 win against No. 16 Central Methodist, taking six of the contest weight classes. The No. 10 women's team won seven of the ten weight classes, including four victories by pin to defeat the No. 18 Eagles, 33-14.

 

Women's Results:

103 pounds: No. 17 Junior Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii) lost to Gabriella Cedeno in a second period (4:18) pin. Central Methodist leads, 5-0.

110 pounds: No. 8 Senior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.) defeated No. 13 Toni Avelino in a 15-4 technical fall. Central Methodist leads, 6-4.

117 pounds: No. 18 Freshman Ashtyn Sagely (Broken Arrow, Okla.) defeated No. 17 Victoria Nunez in a first period (2:11) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 9-6.

124 pounds: Freshman Isla Baeza (Orem, Utah) lost to No. 18 Allison Hynes in an 8-2 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 10-9.

131 pounds: No. 6 Senior Ashley Whetzal (Virginia Beach, Va.) defeated No. 18 Corinne McClure in a 10-3 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 13-10.

138 pounds: No. 8 Sophomore Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) defeated No. 11 Lilly Gough in a 12-2 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 17-11.

145 pounds: No. 6 Freshman Sevreign Aumua (Grain Valley, Mo.) defeated Mina Himmel in a second period (3:37) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 22-11.

160 pounds: Junior Autumn Perez (Dodge City, Kan.) defeated Emma Cole in a first period (1:47) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 27-11.

180 pounds: No. 2 Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) defeated Grace Timmons in a first period (1:37) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 32-11.

207 pounds: Freshman Aniya Herbin (Tampa, Fla.) lost to Christina Page in a 5-1 decision.

Missouri Valley defeats Central Methodist, 33-14.

Up next, the Viking women's wrestling team will compete at the Midland Warrior Open, in Lincoln, Neb., Saturday. The men's team will host Benedictine (Kan.) for Senior Night in a Heart of America Athletic Conference dual, Friday at 7 p.m., inside Burns Athletic Complex.
