No. 9 Women's Wrestling Produces Champion at Missouri Valley Open

Marshall, Mo., (Nov. 23, 2024)- The No. 9 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team hosted the annual Missouri Valley Open, Friday and Saturday inside the Burns Athletic Complex, featuring teams across all divisions of collegiate women's wrestling, including NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO. The Missouri Valley Open is the largest women's collegiate wrestling tournament in the country, and includes more than 50 teams and over 700 women's wrestlers. The Vikings were led by No. 1 Senior Kelani Corbett (Wahiawa, Hawaii) who won the 207lbs weight class, followed by No. 5 Senior Ashley Whetzal (Virginia Beach, Va.) who placed fourth at 131lbs.

Second Round: Defeated Faith Wooley of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a 14-4 technical fall.

Third Round: Defeated Hailey Conley of Fort Hays in a 12-1 technical fall.

Quarterfinal: Defeated Alivia White of Iowa in a 7-2 decision.

Semifinal: Defeated No. 4 Hannah Jackson of Ottawa (Kan.) in a 3-1 decision.

First Place Match: Defeated Sara Lake of Lindenwood (Mo.) in a 7-0 decision.

Corbett won at 207lbs.
