Women's Wrestling Competes in Day Two of the National Championship

Jamestown, N.D., (Mar. 9, 2024)- The No. 13 Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team competed in day two at the 2024 NAIA Women's Wrestling National Championship in Jamestown, N.D., Saturday. The Vikings were led by Freshman Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas) who placed eighth at 143 pounds.

 

Freshman Serenity De La Garza (McAllen, Texas)- 143 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Lost to No. 1 Jamilah McBryde of Life (Ga.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Marish Wahl of Dickinson State (N.D.) in a first period (1:19) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Defeated Makayla Munoz of Oklahoma City in a first period (2:29) pin.

Consolation Fifth Round: Defeated No. 3 Krista Warren of Grand View (Iowa) in a 10-7 decision.

Consolation Quarterfinal: Lost to No. 2 Mea Mohler of Texas Wesleyan in a 12-2 technical fall.

Seventh Place Match: Lost to Reagen Gallaway of Hastings (Neb.) in a 12-1 technical fall.

De La Garza placed eighth at 143 pounds.

 

Sophomore Sage Beltran (Honolulu, Hawaii)- 101 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Lost to No. 3 Kayla Mckinley-Johnson of Menlo (Calif.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

Consolation Second Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to No. 6 Makayla Young of Indiana Tech in a 10-0 technical fall.

 

Junior Hailey Holland (San Bernardino, Calif.)- 109 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Lost to No. 6 Tehani Soares of Indiana Tech in a 12-5 decision.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Rayana Sahagun of Jamestown (N.D.) in a 16-3 technical fall.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to Liv Villanueva of Southern Oregon in a first period pin.

 

Sophomore Madeline Santana (San Bernardino, Calif.)- 130 pounds:

First Round: Lost to Olivia Messerly of Campbellsville (Ky.) in a first period pin.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Defeated Peyton Hand of Ottawa (Kan.) in a first period (0:56) pin.

Consolation Third Round: Lost to Riley Dalrymple of Life (Ga.) in a 10-0 technical fall.

 

Senior Willow Barnes (Romulus, Mich.)- 136 pounds:

First Round: Defeated Piper Hall of Vanguard (Calif.) in a 10-6 decision.

Second Round: Lost to No. 5 Tiyahna Askew of Missouri Baptist in a first period pin.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to No. 6 Mattison Parker of Texas Wesleyan in a 13-12 decision.

 

Senior Aniseta Acosta (Sacramento, Calif.)- 136 pounds:

First Round: Lost to Samantha Barragan of Menlo (Calif.) in a first period pin.

Consolation First Round: Lost to Keilani Guillermo of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a second period pin.

 

Freshman Maria Slaughter (Wentzville, Mo.)- 143 pounds:

First Round: Received a bye.

Second Round: Lost to No. 6 Emma Walker of Campbellsville (Ky.) in a first period pin.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Reagen Gallaway of Hastings (Neb.) in a first period pin.

 

Junior Elise Falcetti (St. Louis, Mo.)- 155 pounds:

First Round: Lost to No. 2 Latifah McBryde of Life (Ga.) in a first period pin.

Consolation First Round: Received a bye.

Consolation Second Round: Lost to Lelani Hernandez of Texas Wesleyan in a 15-4 technical fall.

 

As a team, Missouri Valley finished No. 26 in the standings with 14.5 points. Menlo (Calif.) in first with 172 points, followed by Life (Ga.) in second with 138 points and Southern Oregon in third with 134 points.
