Women's Powerlifters Place Fourth, Men's Team Produces All-American

Atlanta, Ga. (April 11-14, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College powerlifting teams competed at the USAPL Collegiate Nationals in Atlanta, Ga., Thursday through Sunday. The women's team placed fourth raw team standings, the best finish in program history, and the men's team produced one All-American.

 

Women's Results:

The women's team had its best showing in program-history at the USAPL Collegiate Nationals, placing fourth overall.  The team was led by four lifters that finished in the top ten of their respective weight classes.

 

Senior Lauren Bates (Kearney, Mo.) (100kg+) placed 4th with a total of 477.5kg. Her best lifts were 185kg on squat, 97.5kg  on bench press, and 195kg on deadlift.

 

Junior Audrey Schoch (San Antonio, Tx.) (100kg) placed 5th with a total of 462.5kg. Her best lifts were 197.5kg on squat, 80kg on bench press, and 185kg on deadlift.

 

Senior Reyven McDonald (Bonner Springs, Kan.) (100kg) placed 6th with a total of 442.5kg. Her best lifts were 175kg on squat, 90kg on bench press, and 177.5kg on deadlift.

 

Senior Macie Ables (Olathe, Kan.) (100+kg) placed 9th with a total of 465kg. Her best lifts were 195kg on squat, 85kg on bench press, and 185kg on deadlift.

 

Freshman Raven Knoche (Lowden, Iowa) (100+kg) placed 11th with a total of 372.5kg. Her best lifts were 145kg on squat, 87.5kg on bench press, and 140kg on deadlift.

 

Freshman Azlyn Schwarzer (Burleson, Texas) (90kg) placed 28th with a total of 360kg. Her best lifts were 130kg on squat, 72.5kg bench press, and 157.5kg on deadlift. 

 

Senior Savanah Ewing (Stockton, Calif.) (52kg) placed 31st in her weight class with a total of 227.5kg.  Her best lifts were 80kg on squat, 45kg on bench press, and 102.5kg on deadlift. 

 

Senior Jane Watts (Liberty, Mo.) (60kg) placed 63rd in her weight class with a total of 162.5kg. Her best lifts were 90kg on squat, 57.5 kg on bench press and 125kg on deadlift. 

 

Graduate Student Shu'Ron Thompson (Kansas City, Mo.) (48kg) best lifts were 52.2kg on bench press and 115kg on deadlift.

 

The women's team placed fourth overall with 23 team points, the best finish in program-history.  Midland (Neb.) was the National champion with 61 points, followed by Texas-San Antonio in second with 55 points and Texas A&M in third with 45 points.

 

Men's Results:

The men's team was led by All-American Junior Corey Morabito (Lansdale, Pa.) in the 60kg weight class, placing third overall.  A total of three Vikings finished in the top ten in their respective weight classes.

 

Junior Corey Morabito (Lansdale, Pa.) (60kg) placed third with a total of 550kg, making him an All-American. His best lifts were 200kg on squat, 137.5kg on bench press, and 212.5kg on deadlift.  Moribito earned All-American honors for his performance, the first in his career.

 

Sophomore Gabriel Pineda (Marshall, Mo) (100kg) placed 9th with a total of 720kg. His best lifts were 272.5kg on squat, 182.5kg on bench press, and 265kg on deadlift.

 

Junior Markus Stepanoff (Milton, Ontario) (140kg) placed 10th with a total of 650kg. His best lifts were 227.5kg on squat, 162.5kg on bench press, and 260kg on deadlift.

 

Senior Dawson Woehr (Folk, Mo.) (75kg) placed 14th with a total of 497.5kg. His best lifts were 172.5kg on squat, 102.5kg on bench press, and 222.5kg on deadlift.

 

Senior Joshua Barnhill (Burgaw, N.C.)(82.5kg) placed 19th with a total of 602.5kg. His best lifts were 225kg on squat, 137.5kg on bench press, and 240kg on deadlift.

 

The newly added equipped men's team finished 11th overall out of 33 teams competing at the National championship.
