Women's Volleyball Closes Season with loss to Peru State

Marshall, Mo., (Oct. 31, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball team played its final match of the 2025 season Tuesday evening inside the Burns Athletic Complex, hosting Peru State (Neb.) on Halloween night, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference play.  The Vikings fell in four games by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 20-25.

The opening game started with Peru State going in front early, 9-3.  Missouri Valley cut its deficit down to 9-8, as Sophomore Outside Hitter Olivia Randolph (Columbia, Mo.), Freshman Outside Hitter Rylee Adams (Odessa, Mo.), Senior Middle Hitter Patrisiya Uzoma (Moscow, Russia) and Sophomore Right Side Harper Herring (Orange Park, Fla.) had a kill each.  The Bobcats maintained their lead over the next stretch of play, winning seven of the next ten points, 16-11.  However, Missouri Valley responded by taking eight out of eleven points, which included four PSC errors, a kill each from Adams and Uzoma, and an ace by Senior Libero Ana Franco (Cascais, Portugal) to tie the game, 19-19.  Teams traded points through the rest of the game, but the Vikings eventually went in front as Herring had three-straight kills, and Senior Outside Hitter Juliana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put down the final three kills to earn a 25-23 win in the opener.

Game two opened with Missouri Valley going on top early, using two kills each from Adams and Senior Middle Hitter Kinga Romanowicz (Krepiec, Poland), a kill and an ace from Oliveira, and a kill and a solo block from Junior Outside Hitter Laura Tavares (Merida, Venezuela), 10-6.  Peru State answered back winning six-straight points to eventually take the lead, 12-10.  Both teams traded points through a 20-20 score, featuring two kills from Senior Right Side Maria Bertholdo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), who also teamed up with Junior Middle Hitter Stacy Maimur (Chicago, Ill.) on a block, and Tavares also added two more kills and a solo block.  The Bobcats then won six of the final eight points to close out a 25-22 win in game two, and tie the match 1-1 in games.

Peru State gradually built up a lead in the third game, sitting in front, 11-6, where both Randolph and Adams had two kills each.  Teams traded points over the next stretch of play, but Missouri Valley eventually won seven-straight points, using three PSC errors, a kill and a solo block from Oliveira, a kill from Adams, and an ace from Freshman Defensive Specialist Maddie Johnson (Chicago, Ill.) to tie the game and go in front, 21-18.  However, The Bobcats responded by winning seven of the final nine points to finish out a 25-23 win, and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Needing a win in the fourth game to extend the contest, the teams traded points through an 11-11 score, which included two aces from Junior Setter Clarissa Dias (Praia Grande, Brazil), two kills from Tavares, and a solo block each from Herring and Uzoma.  Both teams continued to trade the next several points, as Adams added two kills, Senior Setter Avery Crain (Shell Knob, Mo.) landed an ace and Herring had a solo block and a kill to keep the score tied at 18-18.  Peru State won four-straight points to take the lead, and eventually won the final three points to close a 25-20 win in the game, and a victory in the match.

Adams led with 14 kills, followed by Oliveira with 12 kills and seven digs. Herring had seven kills and two blocks, while both Uzoma and Tavares totaled six kills and one solo block each.  Dias had 19 assists and two aces, and Crain also added 19 assists and one ace. Missouri Valley finished with seven blocks as a team and eight aces.

The loss ends the season for Missouri Valley at 13-16 overall and 6-12 in the Heart.  Peru State improves to 12-18 on the season and 5-12 in the conference.
