Women's Volleyball Falls on the Road to Central Methodist
Fayette, Mo., (Oct. 10, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball traveled to Fayette, Mo., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference match with Central Methodist (Mo.), Friday evening. The Vikings fell by scores of 19-25, 23-25, 16-25.
Game one started with the Eagles going in front early, 11-3. Missouri Valley responded, winning six of the next seven points as Sophomore Outside Hitter Olivia Randolph (Columbia, Mo.) ended the drought for MVC with a kill, followed by a kill from Senior Outside Hitter Juliana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who also teamed up with Junior Middle Hitter Stacy Maimur (Chicago, Ill.) on a block. Three other Vikings added a kill each, and Freshman Libero Morgan Smith (Kaufman, Texas) landed an ace to cut down their deficit, 12-9. Teams traded points over the next stretch of play, while Missouri Valley used three CMU errors, a kill each from Junior Outside Hitter Laura Tavares (Merida, Venezuela) and Senior Right Side Maria Bertholdo (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and an ace from Oliveira to keep the scoreboard close, 18-16. The Eagles maintained the lead through the rest of the game and won the final four points to win the opener, 25-19.
The two teams started the second game by trading points through an 8-8 score. Bertholdo finished off two kills, Senior Middle Hitter Kinga Romanowicz (Krepiec, Poland) and Oliveira both added a kill and teamed up on a block in the opening stretch. Missouri Valley went on a run, winning six-straight points, using three Eagles errors, a kill from Bertholdo, and an ace from Oliveira to hold a 16-9 advantage. The Vikings continued building up a lead, taking eight of the next eleven points, which included two kills from Randolph, who teamed up with Maimur on a block, and a kill each from Romanowicz, Oliveira and Senior Middle Hitter Patrisiya Uzoma (Moscow, Russia) to stay on top, 23-14. Central Methodist worked back into the game, following with a run and winning the final eleven-straight points to close out the second game at a 25-23 score.
Needing a win in the third game to extend the match, Missouri Valley fell behind early, by a 6-2 score. The Vikings closed the gap down, as Bertholdo had a kill, Randolph and Uzoma added a block, and Oliveira landed two kills, cutting their deficit down to 13-10. Points were traded over the next stretch of play, but Missouri Valley was unable to work back into the game and Central Methodist won by a 25-16 score to sweep the match.
Bertholdo led with eight kills, while Oliveira followed with seven kills, two aces, and six digs. Randolph finished with five kills, and Tavares and Romanowicz had three kills each. Both Senior Setter Avery Crain (Shell Knob, Mo.) and Sophomore Setter Kellen Fitzgerald (Frisco, Texas) had eleven assists each. Missouri Valley finished with seven blocks as a team.
Missouri Valley drops to 11-11 overall and 4-7 in the Heart. Central Methodist improves to 14-6 on the season and 6-4 in the conference.
