Women's Volleyball Earns Road Sweep at Clarke
Dubuque, Iowa, (Sept. 6, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College women's volleyball team traveled to Dubuque, Iowa for a Heart of America Athletic Conference match with Clarke (Iowa), Saturday afternoon. The Vikings swept to a victory by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-23.
The two teams traded points through a long stretch to open the first game. Senior Middle Blocker Jisell Chumacero (Denver, Colo.) landed two kills, and Senior Middle Hitter Kinga Romanowicz (Krepeic, Poland), Sophomore Outside Hitter Olivia Randolph (Columbia, Mo.) and Senior Outside Hitter Juliana Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each had one kill through a 10-10 score. Romanowicz put down another kill to move MVC in front, followed by one kill from Freshman Outside Hitter Rylee Adams (Odessa, Mo.) and Clarke errors to help build a 15-13 advantage. Back-to-back kills from Randolph and Oliveira stretched the lead out to 18-14, and the two teams traded points through the rest of the game. Sophomore Right Side Harper Herring (Orange Park, Fla.) gave Missouri Valley game-point on a kill, and Oliveira sealed a win in the first game with one more kill to finish at 25-22.
The Pride moved in front at the start of the second game, taking five of the first six points. One kill from both Oliveira and Chumacero, who also teamed up on a block, with an ace by Romanowicz helped MVC tie the teams at 5-5. Senior Setter Avery Crain (Shell Knob, Mo.) put down an ace and Oliveira finished off another kill to put the Vikings ahead, 8-7. After CU won three-straight points to reclaim the lead at 10-8, Missouri Valley won six of seven points over a stretch of play. Senior Libero Ana Franco (Cascais, Portugal) added an ace, and Herring landed a kill to help the team hold a 14-11 advantage. The Vikings began to pull away late in the game. Chumacero recorded two kills, and Oliveira added one kill as the score sat at 21-13. Clarke worked back to a 21-16 deficit, but the final four points went to Missouri Valley. Oliveira ended the game with two more kills, and MVC won by a 25-16 score to lead 2-0 in the match.
Needing a win in the third game to extend the contest, CU jumped to a 5-1 lead early. The Vikings chipped away at the deficit, as Randolph had two kills, while Oliveira teamed up with Junior Right Side Alana Burton (Ogden, Iowa) on a block then finished off one kill and an ace during the stretch. Randolph and Herring each chipped in with one kill as the deficit sat at 7-6. The Pride stayed in front, and eventually held an 11-8 lead. Missouri Valley came back with four-straight points, helped by a block from Randolph and Burton, then the pair each landed one kill and Adams recorded an ace to send the team ahead, 12-11. The teams traded points, but the Pride could never reclaim the lead. A kill from Burton and an ace by Junior Setter Clarissa Dias (Praia Grande, Brazil) made it a 19-16 score. Later in the game, Randolph had another kill, and a CU error put the advantage at 23-19. The Pride trimmed its deficit to 23-22, but Oliveira gave MVC match-point with one more kill. The game ended on a block from Senior Middle Hitter Patrisiya Uzoma (Moscow, Russia) and Chumacero to close a 25-23 win in the game, and a sweep in the match.
Oliveira led with 12 kills on a .321 hitting percentage, while Randolph added nine kills. Cran had 13 assists and six digs, while Sophomore Setter Kellen Fitzgerald (Frisco, Texas) added 12 assists and eight digs. Franco led with 15 digs, and Adams finished with 12 digs. Missouri Valley had five blocks and seven aces as a team.
The win moves Missouri Valley to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the Heart. Clarke drops to 1-9 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
