Tennis Teams Split Contests at Ottawa

Ottawa, Kan., (March 12, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College tennis teams traveled to Ottawa (Kan.) for matches Wednesday afternoon.  The women's team came out with a 5-2 win in matches, while the men's team fell, 6-1.

 

Women's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Senior Renata Olvera (Mexico City, Mexico)/Sophomore Queralt Carbo (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Valeria Rodriguez/Paula Persson, 6-3.

No. 2-Sophomore Keila Chris Liebenberg (Hartbeespoort, South Africa)/Sophomore Hannah Brown (Marshall, Mo.) defeated Alejandra Parra/Camryn Medina, 7-5.

No. 3-Sophomore Deborah Mhizha (Masvingo, Zimbabwe)/Freshman Karabo Maluleke won by default.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Olvera defeated Rodriguez, 5-7, 7-5, 10-5.

No. 2-Carbo defeated Persson, 6-3, 6-4.

No. 3-Mhizha lost to Parra, 3-6, 5-7.

No. 4-Liebenberg lost to Medina, 1-6, 2-6.

No. 5-Brown won by default.

No. 6-Maluleke won by default.

 

Men's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Junior Alecson Deschamps (Bluemenau, Brazil)/Junior Alex Ballinger (Northampton, England) lost to Jarmo Perez Wienese/Enzo Ceravolo, 4-6.

No. 2-Sophomore Alvaro Ruiz (Barcelona, Spain)/Sophomore Marco Bueso (Manresa, Spain) defeated Oscar Giorgio/Ben Russell, 7-6.

No. 3-Sophomore David Schlageter (Meerbusch, Germany)/Freshman Felix Ortola (Madrid, Spain) lost to Bernardo Figueiredo/Santiago Tartaglia, 1-6.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Deschamps lost to Perez Wienese, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.

No. 2-Tartaglia defeated Ruiz, 4-6, 2-6.

No. 3-Russell defeated Ballinger, 3-6, 5-7.

No. 4-Giorgio defeated Bueso, 3-6, 5-7.

No. 5-Ceravolo defeated Bogdon Zakharov, 1-6, 2-6.

No. 6-Junior Valentin Laser (Bad Endorf, Germany) defeated Figueiredo, 6-7, 6-4, 10-8,

 

The women's team improves to 3-1 on the season, while the men's team falls to 2-3.

 

Up next, the tennis teams will play matches in Lawrence, Kan., throughout the day, Saturday.  First contests are against Grand View (Iowa) at 10 a.m., followed by a meeting with John Brown (Ark.) at 4 p.m.
