Tennis Teams Split Road Matches at William Jewell

Liberty, Mo., (Feb. 28, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Liberty, Mo., for matches against NCAA Division II William Jewell (Mo.), Friday afternoon.  The Viking women's team won, 5-2 in matches, while the men's team fell, 5-2.

 

Men's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Junior Alecson Deschamps (Bluemenau, Brazil)/Freshman Richard Tasev (Lisbon, Portugal) lost to Julien Lafranchise/Gage Foltz, 5-7.

No. 2-Sophomore Luca Stadtfeld (Cologne, Germany)/Junior Alex Ballinger (Northampton, England) lost to Ugnius Bickauskis/ Caden Lingenfelser, 1-6.

No. 3-Sophomore Alvaro Ruiz (Barcelona, Spain)/Sophomore Marc Bueso (Manresa, Spain) defeated Max Quennery/Isac Fredricksson, 6-3.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Sophomore Ruslan Anurev (Novorossiysk, Russia) lost to Bickauskis, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2-Ruiz lost to Lafranchise, 3-6, 0-6.

No. 3-Deschamps lost to Foltz, 6-7, 2-6.

No. 4-Bueso defeated Lingenfelser, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.

No. 5-Stadtfeld lost to Quennery, 2-6, 2-6.

No. 6-Ballinger defeated Fredriksson, 6-2, 2-2, injury.

 

Women's Results:

Doubles:

No. 1-Senior Renata Olvera (Mexico City, Mexico)/Senior Milene Marciniuk (Curitiba, Brazil) lost to Gwyn Gifford/Maisie Markowitz, 2-6.

No. 2-No. 3-Sophomore Deborah Mhizha (Masvingo, Zimbabwe)/Karabo Maluleke lost to Molly McBratney/Brooklyn Aduff, 2-6.

No. 3-Sophomore Queralt Carbo (Barcelona, Spain)/Sophomore Keila Liebenberg (Hartbeespoort, South Africa) defeated Megan Giffin/Claire Weber, 6-1.

 

Singles:

No. 1-Olvera lost to Gifford, 4-6, 2-6.

No. 2-Marciniuk defeated Markowitz, 7-5, 6-3.

No. 3-Mhizha defeated McBratney, 7-5, 6-0.

No. 4-Maluleke defeated Aduff, 6-4, 6-2.

No. 5-Carbo defeated Giffin, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 6-Liebenberg defeated Weber 6-1, 6-4.

 

The Viking women's team improves to 2-0 on the season, while the men's team drops to 1-1

 

Up next, the men's team will host Mount Marty (Iowa) in matches, Monday at 2 p.m., at Indian Foothills Park.  Both teams will be in action March 7 with matches at McPherson (Kan.) at 1p.m.
