No. 4 Women's Soccer Secures Undefeated Regular Season With Win Over Baker

Baldwin City, Kan., (Nov. 1, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams closed their regular seasons with a road Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader in Baldwin City, Kan., Saturday evening against Baker (Kan.).  The No. 4 women's soccer team led early, and pulled away late in a 5-3 victory to secure an undefeated regular season.

The women's game started with an early goal created by Missouri Valley.  With just over five minutes off the clock, the Vikings earned a penalty kick opportunity.  Senior Midfielder Carla Carmona (Barcelona, Spain) stepped up, and put the shot into goal to give MVC a 1-0 advantage.  The next quality chance created came 12-minutes later, and forced Senior Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain) into a save.  The two teams traded possession, and MVC eventually had another chance on goal at the 30-minute mark.  Carmona sent a shot in, which was saved. Baker responded and tied the contest at 1-1 less than three minutes later.  Missouri Valley created the final chance on goal in the half, coming with less than 10-minutes remaining, as the shot from Senior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) was saved, and the teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.

The second half began with early pressure created by Missouri Valley.  Senior Forward Marlene Flores (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia) had a shot hit off the crossbar with just over two minutes played after the restart.  The deflection was collected by Senior Forward Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) who put her shot past the BU keeper and into goal to send the Vikings back on top, 2-1.  Just over five minutes later, Arribas was included in another opportunity, this team assisting on a Flores goal to make it a 3-1 score.  The Wildcats responded quickly, and scored one minute later to pull back into a 3-2 deficit.  Baker came close to tying the contest again, creating another shot on goal moments after the ensuing kickoff, with Barbara Bujalance making the save.  The two teams traded possession until midway through the half, when Senior Defender Daijah White (Tucson, Ariz.) set up Arribas with another goal, extending the MVC advantage to 4-2.  The Wildcats continued to stay close, and cut the deficit down to 4-3 near the 76-minute mark.  The scoring continued one minute later, as Sophomore Midfielder Fabiana Vasquez (Isla Margarita, Venezuela) sent a free kick from just outside the Wildcat box towards goal and past the keeper into the next to make it a 5-3 score.  Barbara Bujalance had to make two more late saves to hold off BU, and Missouri Valley finished out a 5-3 win to end the regular season with an undefeated record.

Arribas scored twice and added one assist.  Arribas now has 11 goals, three assists and 25 points on the season, to go with four game-winning goals.  Flores scored her fifth goal, and Carmona added her first goal.  Vasquez added her second goal of the season.  White now has three assists.  Barbara Bujalance made four saves in goal.  Missouri Valley held a 21-7 advantage in shots and created nine corner kicks.
