No. 6 Women's Soccer Secures Shutout Win at Graceland

Lamoni, Iowa, (Sept. 27, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Lamoni, Iowa, for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader with Graceland (Iowa), Saturday evening. The No. 6 women's team earned a 2-0 win over GU. The No. 25 men's team pulled away in the second half for a 4-1 win.

The women's game opened with Missouri Valley taking the better of possession, and creating changes early.  Senior Daijah White (Tucson, Ariz.) had a shot on goal with nearly four minutes played, and both Senior Midfielder Judit Ferre (Barcelona, Spain) and Senior Forward Marlene Flores (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia) added a shot on target less than four minutes later, but both were saved by the Graceland goalkeeper.  The Vikings continued to pressure, and Senior Midfielder Madi Hudson (Sandbach, England) set up Senior Ashley Arribas (Lake Forest, Calif.) with a goal to make it a 1-0 lead just over 15-minutes played.  Missouri Valley earned two-consecutive corner kicks near the 22-minute mark and moments later, Arribas scored her second goal with an assist from White to push the advantage out to 2-0.  Just over midway through the half, Senior Defender Marta Carrasco Mesa (Sevilla, Spain) came close to extending the lead, as a shot hit off the crossbar.  Graceland eventually had its first shot on target with 15-minutes left on the clock, and Senior Goalkeeper Marina Barbara Bujalance (Cornella Llobregat, Spain) made the save.  Then, Senior Defender Zoe Christofaro (Tucson, Ariz.) tested the GU goalkeeper with less than eight minutes remaining, but the shot was saved.  The two teams traded possession through the final minutes of play, and Missouri Valley went into halftime in front, 2-0.

Play in the second half started with the Vikings pressuring early, and the first quality chance came nearly 15-minutes into play, as Carrasco Mesa had a shot on target that was saved.  The Yellowjackets added a shot two minutes later, and Barbara Bujalance came up with a save.  Missouri Valley continued to hold the majority of possession, and Sophomore Midfielder Fabiana Vasquez (Isla Margarita, Venezuela) put a shot on goal, but the GU keeper made another save near the 65-minute mark.  The Vikings created two more chances through the rest of the second half, as Flores and Freshman Forward Daniela Manzanares (Nicaragua) both had a shot, but MVC was unable to add another goal.  The final shot came from Graceland with under a minute to play, but Missouri Valley finished out the 2-0 victory.

Arribas finished with two goals, and now has four goals and 10 points on the season. White and Hudson each added one assist, and Barbara Bujalance made two saves in goal.  Missouri Valley held a 17-5 advantage in shots, and earned seven corner kicks.

Missouri Valley improves to 7-0-3 on the season and 5-0-1 in the Heart.  Graceland drops to 4-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking men's team will host Hannibal La-Grange (Mo.) in a non-conference match, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Then, the Viking soccer teams will host Park (Mo.) in a Heart doubleheader, October 4. The women's game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
