Women's Lacrosse Tops Midland in Road Scrimamge
Fremont, Neb., (Oct. 26, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College women's lacrosse team defeated Midland (Neb.) in a road scrimmage, Saturday .
Opening draw was won by MVC's freshman midfielder Ashley Halter that quickly led to a MVC score by Halter at 14:04 left in the first quarter. The next possession was won by Midland where possessions were traded until Midland scored with 11:42 remaining in the 1st quarter. The next possession was won by MVC and Sophomore Hailey Davis scored with 10:40 remaining in the 1st. The next possession was won by Midland and the two teams traded possessions until a forced turnover by Rose Szymanski Lead to a Hailey Davis goal with 8:42 remaining in the 1st. The next possession was won by Midland and lead to a quick goal to make it a 2-3 game. The next possession was won by MVC, however possession was exchanged multiple times through good defense on the part of both teams but MVC's Ashley Halter ended up scoring with 2:53 remaining in the 1st. MVC won the next Draw and Rose Szymanski made a quick goal with 1:50 remaining in the 1st. The next possession was won by MVC however time expired in the first quarter without another score. At the end of the first quarter the score was MVC 5, Midland 3.
The second quarter started with Another MVC possession and score by sophomore Rose Szymanski at just 14:18 in the quarter. The next possession was a quick MVC score by freshman Olivia Cox With 14:05 still to play in the second. The next possession was won by MVC but traded between the two teams until a score came from Ashley Halter at 12:14 in the quarter. The following draw was possessed by Midland However the shot went wide and MVC was awarded the ball. During this possession Ashley Halter was awarded a free position shot and Scored with 11:31 remaining. The next draw was won by MVC and led to two quick scores by Hailey Davis at 11:02 and 10:53. The Next MVC score came off of another Ashley Halter score at 9:27. The next draw was controlled by MVC after a few possession changes Midland got fouled and scored on a free position shot at 6:52 left in the second. The next draw was won by MVC with a quick goal by Allexis Lark at 6:15. The rest of the quarter was tough defense by both teams with no more points scored, the half ended with a score of MVC 13 - Midland 4.
The second half begins with Midland winning the draw and scoring quickly with 14:32 left in the quarter. The next possession was again won by Midland and another score with 12:13 remaining. The third possession of the quarter was won by Midland but after some good defense MVC gets the ball back and Rose Szymanski scores with 9:37 remaining in the quarter. After a long defensive battle between the 2 teams MVC's Ashley Halter scores with 3:34 left in the 3rd. Midland answers back with a quick draw win and goal with 2:27 left. Hailey Davis finishes out the quarter with a goal to make the score MVC16 Midland 7.
The fourth quarter starts with a MVC possession but a quick turnover gives Midland the opportunity to get a quick score at 14:13 in the quarter. After a Midland draw win and a defensive battle Midland gets another goal with 10:10 to play in the game. The next draw is won by MVC but a forced turnover by Midland gets them another goal with 8:00 minutes remaining. After another long possession by Midland there is another goal scored to reduce the deficit to 10-16. After the goal Midland gets another quick goal with 3:32 remaining. With 9 seconds remaining Midland scores one last goal to make the total MVC 16 - Midland 13.
Leading scores for the Viking were Hailey Davis and Ashley Halter with 5 goals each, Rose Szymanski had 3 goals, Olivia Cox had 2 goals and Lexi Lark had 1. Hailey Davis had 4 assists and 5 ground balls with 7 draw controls and 2 caused turnovers on the day. Ashley Halter finished with10 draw controls and 7 ground balls. Olivia Cox had 12 draw controls. The women's lacrosse teams next scrimmage will be against K-State on Sept 2nd.
