Shotgun Sports Competes at Drury Panther Classic
Springfield, Mo., (Sept. 12, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team continued its season with the Drury (Mo.) Panther Classic in Southwest Missouri., over the weekend. The team competed at Springfield Rod and Gun Club in Springfield, Mo., and the Ozark Shooters Complex in Walnut Shade, Mo. The Vikings finished fifth in the overall standings.
The competition consisted of American trap, American skeet, sporting clays and 50 targets. Leading the team was Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.), who finished with an overall score of 305/350. Senior Blayne Kolb (Maysville, Mo.) followed with a 301/350, and Freshman Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas) finished with a score of 300/.50. Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (Santa Maria, Calif.) added a 290/350 and Junior Ely Allen (Carrollton, Mo.) totaled a 288/350.
In sporting clays, the team was led by Duffin, who finished with an 84/100. Kolb led in American skeet, with a 93/100, while Sophomore Paige Burns (Trail, Minn.) led in American trap with a 95/100. Taking first out of all competitors in 50 targets was Freshman Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas), who posted a 48/50, and Simmons' score was the best of all competitors at the event.
In the team standings, Missouri Valley placed fifth out of eight teams with a 1481 total. Drury won the competition with a 1598, followed by State Fair (Mo.) with a 1508. Ozarks was third with a 1506, and Lindenwood (Mo.) was fourth with a 1499.
"This weekend was the team's first competition where we shot various disciplines," said Head Coach Reba Kingsley. "Although some scores were not the outcome and performance our student-athletes would have liked, we learned and identified areas to work on and improve."
Up next, the shotgun sports team competes at the Simpson (Iowa) Shootout at New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee, Iowa, Saturday and Sunday.
