Shooting Sports Opens Spring at William Woods Invite

Jefferson City, Mo., (Feb. 14, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College shooting sports team opened its spring competition schedule at the William Woods (Mo.) Invite at United Sportsmans Club in Jefferson City, Mo.  The team produced the high overall average and individual discipline winners.

 

In trap, the Vikings produced six of the top seven finishers in the men's standings, led by first place Freshman Dakota Zaugg (Santa Maria, Calif.) with a 98/100 score.  Junior Blayne Kolb (Maysville, Mo.) was second with a 95/100, Freshman Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.) and Sophomore Lane Zabokrtsky (Fairbury, Neb.) followed tied for third with a 94/100.  Junior Charlie Maddox (Forest, Va.) was fifth with a 92/100 and Freshman Kaina Fiel (Brazil) was seventh with a 91/100.  On the women's side, Junior Kilee Bradley-Robinson (Downing, Mo.) was first with a 92/100 and Freshman Paige Burns (Trail, Minn.) followed in third with an 86/100.  As a team, the Vikings finished first overall in the event with a total of 473/500.

 

In skeet, the Vikings produced two finishers in the top six of the men's standings.  Maddox finished with a 98/100, tied for the best score, but lost out on the tiebreak to place second.  Zaugg came in sixth with a 95/100.  Adding to the team score was Sophomore Hunter Sims (Sweet Springs, Mo.) with a 94/100 top place tenth, Zabokrtsky with a 91/100 and Kolb with a 90/100.  The women's team produced three finishers in the top four.  Sophomore Josie Stuver (Carrollton, Mo.) was first with a 90/100.  Burns was third with an 88/100 and Junior Boe Caplan (Buellton, Calif.) was fourth with an 86/100.  Missouri Valley finished second overall in the standings with a total score of 468/500.

 

In sporting clays, the Vikings were led by Kolb who finished third in the standings with a 85/100.  Maddox had an 84/100, Zaugg and 82/100, Sims an 80/100 and Senior Alex Machetta (Raymore, Mo.) a 77/100, all contributing to the team score.  Caplan finished second in the women's standings with a 74/100.  Missouri Valley was second overall with a 408/100.

 

In the high overall standings, Zaugg was first in the men's competition with a total of 275/300.  Caplan was first in the women's standings with a 241/300.  In the team high overall standings, Missouri Valley was first, out of six teams competing, with a total of 1340.  State Fair (Mo.) was third with 1332, and Missouri followed in third with a 1249 total.

 

"For the first competition of the spring season, this was a good first showing of the progress we're making and work that is being put in by the student-athletes," said Head Coach Reba Kingsley.  "We had numerous student-athletes with 24's and 25's, finishing with perfect rounds.  Now we need to polish consistency and finishing stations."

 

Next up for the team is the Mizzou Tundra Invitational in Columbia, Mo., Saturday and Sunday.
