Softball Splits Pair of Non-Conference Games at Stephens
Columbia, Mo., (March 25, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College softball team traveled to Columbia, Mo., for a Wednesday non-conference doubleheader against Stephens (Mo.). The Vikings won the opener, 2-1, and dropped the second game to split the doubleheader.
Missouri Valley went in front at the start of the first game, as Senior Centerfielder Jesykah Foster (Garden City, Kan.) walked and stole second, and Freshman First Baseman Gabriella White (Pittsburg, Kan.) singled to center field to bring home Foster to make it a 1-0 score. Junior Pitcher Chloe Shuff (Cypress, Calif.) followed by taking down the Starts in order in the bottom of the first and second inning, striking out one batter to keep the Vikings ahead. Missouri Valley threatened in the top of the third, as both Senior Rightfielder Ella Dillon (Sumner, Wash.) and Sophomore Second Baseman Allison Loucas (Twin Lakes, Wisc.) singled, and White reached first on a Stephens error to load the bases, but all three runners were left stranded. Shuff faced the minimum in the bottom half of the third.
After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, Missouri Valley loaded the bases again in the top of the fifth, as Foster reached first on an error, Loucas followed with a double, and White was hit by the pitch, but MVC was unable to produce any runs. Shuff struck out two batters in the bottom half of the inning to keep Missouri Valley in the lead, 1-0. Both teams were held scoreless in the sixth inning. The Vikings used a solo home run from White in the top of the seventh to extend the advantage to 2-0. Stephens tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, as they loaded the bases with two-outs. The Stars used a single to produce one run, but Senior First Baseman Makayla Casjens (Galt, Calif.) tagged a runner trying to score at the plate to secure the team's win, 2-1.
White led the team with two hits, one scored run, and two RBI's. Loucas followed with two hits, while Foster scored one run, and four other Vikings finished with one hit each. Shuff pitched the complete game, giving up five hits, one earned run with three strikeouts.
The second game featured one hit each from Foster and Sophomore Third Baseman Keira Carvalho (Vista, Calif.). Freshman Pitcher Sienna Saggiani (Palos Verdes, Calif.) picked up the loss, going 2.0 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs. The Vikings fell by a final score of 10-0.
Missouri Valley moves to 3-23 on the season. Stephens sits at 4-16 overall.
Up next, the Viking softball team will travel to Canton, Mo., for a Heart doubleheader with Culver-Stockton (Mo.), Saturday at 1 p.m.
