Cross Country Competes at Heart Championships

Cedar Rapids, Iowa, (Nov. 9, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saturday.

The men's team was led by Freshman Evans Kiptoo (Eldoret, Kenya), who finished the 8k race in a time of 29:52 to place at No. 95 overall.  Freshman Montique Griffiths (Clarendon, Jamaica) followed at No. 104 with a time of 30:58, with Junior DeRel Morris (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 107 in a time of 31:04.  Freshman Dante Gordon (St. Catherine, Jamaica) placed at No. 120 with a time of 37:39, and Junior Angel Lopez (Los Fresnos, Calif.) finished out the team at No. 122 overall with a time of 38:34.

The women's team was led by Senior Camille Humphrey (St. Charles, Mo.), who finished the 6k race in a time of 27:08 to place at No. 69 overall.  Freshman Faraja Nyasa (Kansas City, Mo.) followed at No. 102 in a time of 30:45, and Freshman Brynna Wentland (Higginsville, Mo.) came in at No. 103 with a time of 30:50.

The men's team placed at No. 13 in the standings with a total score of 387.  Mount Mercy (Iowa) won the championship with a team score of 69.  The women's team did not post a total score.  Mount Mercy also won the women's championship with a total score of 36.
