Men's Wrestling Defeats Benedictine in Road Dual
Atchison, Kan., (Nov. 15, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team traveled to Atchison, Kan., Wednesday afternoon for its first Heart of America Athletic Conference dual of the season with Benedictine (Kan.). The Vikings won nine of the weight classes, including five by pin, to earn a 45-6 victory.
125lbs: Sophomore Elijah Asuncion (Honolulu, Hawaii) defeated Jacob Campbell in a 9-7 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 3-0.
133lbs: Freshman Haden Hernandez (Huntington Beach, Calif.) defeated Calvin Miller in a 23-5 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 8-0.
141lbs: Junior Donavan Parn (Brookfield, Mo.) defeated Hayden Biggs in a first period (1:30) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 14-0.
149lbs: No. 10 Senior Chase Zollmann (Poway, Calif.) defeated Patrick Ransom in a 14-1 major decision. Missouri Valley leads, 18-0.
157lbs: Junior Caleb Benshoof (Grain Valley, Mo.) defeated Dominik Gendreau in an 11-8 overtime decision. Missouri Valley leads, 21-0.
165lbs: Sophomore Cole Patten (Lebanon, Mo.) lost to Gino Camarca in a third period (5:48) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 21-6.
174lbs: Junior Brenden Parks (Elburn, III.) defeated Sean Stara in a second period (3:12) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 27-6.
184lbs: Senior Drake Tipton (Grain Valley, Mo.) defeated Gabe Green in a first period (1:18) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 33-6.
197lbs: Sophomore Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte (Woodbridge, Va.) defeated Todd Daniels in a first period (0:57) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 39-6.
285lbs: No. 6 Senior Joshua Isaac (Woodbridge, Va.) defeated Connor Coleman in a first period (2:03) pin.
Missouri Valley defeats Benedictine, 45-6.
"We wrestled well tonight," said Head Coach Pat Giangrosso. "We came out aggressive and scored early in the matches. This is a dual we can build and improve on".
The win moves Missouri Valley to 1-0 in the Heart this season. Benedictine drops to 0-1 in the Heart. This is the largest margin of victory in a dual since defeating Central Methodist (Mo.) 52-0 back in January 28th, 2021.
Up next, the Vikings men's wrestling team will compete at the Lindenwood (Mo.) Open, Saturday starting at 9 a.m., in St. Charles, Mo.
