Weightlifting Team Hosted First-Ever Viking Invitational
Marshall, Mo. (Jan. 18, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College weightlifting team hosted its first-ever USA Weightlifting Viking Invitational Saturday inside the Burns Athletic Complex. The meet included some outside competitors in Youth, Senior and Masters Divisions, but had mostly MVC weightlifters competing in it. The Vikings qualified two more men for the USA Weightlifting University Nationals, and saw a return to the competition platform for Head Weightlifting Coach Jianping Ma, who also qualified for the USA Weightlifting Masters Nationals. Medals were determined by Sinclair Formula, a coefficient formula that determines pound for pound strongest, but also includes determining factors for age and weight class variants.
Women's results:
Junior Alexx Torres (Chicago, Ill.): placed first in the Women's Senior Division, Snatch 40 kg/ 88 lbs, Clean & Jerk 43 kg/ 94.6 lbs = Total 83 kg/ 182.6 lbs.
Freshman Madison Woodworth (Panama City, Fla.): placed first in the Women's Junior Division, Snatch 60 kg/ 132 lbs, Clean & Jerk 82 kg/ 180.4 lbs = 142 kg/ 312.4 lbs.
Freshman Kaytlyn Simpson (Grain Valley, Mo.): placed second in the Women's Junior Division, Snatch 55 kg/ 121 lbs, Clean & Jerk 65 kg/ 143 lbs = Total 120 kg/ 264 lbs.
Junior Skyie Fuentes (Ione, Calif.): placed third in the Women's Junior Division, Snatch 37 kg/ 81.4 lbs, Clean & Jerk 40 kg/ 88 lbs = Total 73 kg/ 160.6 lbs.
Junior Elen Cabral (Betim, Minas Girais, Brazil): Snatch 47 kg/ 103.4 lbs, Clean & Jerk 50 kg/ 110 lbs = Total 97 kg/ 213.4 lbs.
Men's results:
Senior Ontarriyus Reid (Palatka, Fla.): placed first in the Men's Senior Division, Snatch 100 kg/ 220 lbs, Clean & Jerk 110 kg/ 242 lbs = Total 210 kg/ 462 lbs. Reid qualified for the USA Weightlifting University Nationals in Columbus, OH, February 27 - March 2.
Sophomore Noah Carr (Kissimmee, Fla.): placed first in the Men's Junior Division, Snatch 108 kg/ 237.6 lbs, Clean & Jerk 140 kg/ 308 lbs = Total 248 kg/ 545.6 lbs. Carr qualified for the USA Weightlifting University Nationals in Columbus, OH, February 27 - March 2.
Freshman Jaden Lambert (Belton, Mo.): placed second in Men's Junior Division, Snatch 93 kg/ 204.6 lbs, Clean & Jerk 110 kg/ 242 lbs = Total 203 kg/ 446.6 lbs.
Sophomore Corey Morabito (Lansdale, Pa.): placed third in the Men's Senior Division, Snatch 60 kg/ 132 lbs, Clean & Jerk 83 kg/ 182.6 lbs = Total 143 kg/ 314.6 lbs.
Freshman Jedi Kracl (Crete, Neb.): placed third in the Men's Junior Division, Snatch 70 kg/ 154 lbs, Clean & Jerk 110 kg/ 242 lbs = Total 180 kg/ 396 lbs.
Freshman Ishmael Foster (Palatka, Fla.): Snatch 60 kg/ 132 lbs, Clean & Jerk 90 kg/ 198 lbs = Total 150 kg/ 330 lbs.
Freshman Johnathan Waugaman (Mayo, Fla.): Snatch 60 kg/ 132 lbs, Clean & Jerk 68 kg/ 149.8 lbs = Total 128 kg/ 281.6 lbs.
Freshman Myles Mobley (Ballwin, Mo.): Snatch 75 kg/ 165 lbs, Clean & Jerk 90 kg/ 198 lbs = Total 165 kg/ 383 lbs.
Head Weightlifting Coach Jianping Ma: placed second in the Men's Masters, Snatch 65 kg/ 143 lbs, Clean & Jerk 90 kg/ 198 lbs = 155 kg/ 341 lbs, qualified for the USA Weightlifting Masters Nationals in Atlanta, GA, April 3-6.
Up next, the Viking lifting team will travel to Lebanon, Ill. to compete at USA Powerlifting Collegiate Regionals on Feb. 8-9.
