Powerlifting Competes at William Jewell Invitational
Liberty, Mo., (Nov. 11, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College powerlifting team traveled to Liberty, Mo., to compete in the William Jewell (Mo.) Collegiate Invitational, Saturday. The meet featured seven programs including some of the top teams in the region.
The Viking women's equipped team placed second, and the women's raw team placed fourth overall.
Sophomore Azlyn Schwarzer (Burleson, TX): Placed second in the Equipped 90 kg Weight Class. Squat-150kg/ 330.6 lbs Bench-85kg/ 187.3lb (new Missouri State Record) Deadlift-162.5kg/ 358.2lb (new Missouri State Record)Total-397.5kg/ 876.5lb (new Missouri State Record).
Freshman Syrah Garcia (Encinal, TX): Placed first in the Equipped 100+ kg Weight Class. Squat-160kg/ 330.6lb (new Missouri State Record) Bench-77.5kg/ 170.8lb Deadlift-152.5kg/ 336.2lb (new Missouri State Record) Total-390kg/ 859.8lb (new Missouri State Record). Garcia has now qualified for Collegiate Nationals.
Junior Sara Spreeman (Bolingbrook, IL): Placed second in the Equipped 100+ kg Weight Class.Squat-120kg/ 264.5lb Bench-75kg/ 165.3lb Deadlift-120kg/ 264.5lb Total-315kg/ 694.4lb.

Freshman Hannah Miller (Marshall, MO): Placed fifth in the Raw 67.5 kg Weight Class. Squat-127.5kg/ 281lb Bench-60kg/ 132.2lb Deadlift-147.5kg/ 325.1lb Total-335kg/ 738.5lb. Miller has now qualified for Collegiate Nationals.

Missouri Valley College's men's equipped team placed third, and men's raw was fourth, one point back of third place.
