Tennis Teams Open Spring Season With Matches at St. Mary
Leavenworth, Kan., (Feb. 23, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's tennis teams went on the road for matches against St. Mary (Kan.) to open the spring season, Friday afternoon. The men's team did not lose a set earning the victory, while the women's team lost in a closely played contest.

Doubles:
No. 1-Freshman Sergio Martinez/Senior Francesco Caratti (Novara, Italy) defeated Kevin Eutsey/Evan Maritz, 6-4.
No. 2-Freshman Alvaro Ruiz/Sophomore Alecson Deschamps (Blumenau, Brazil) defeated Will Ogrizovich/Leyton Ross, 6-2.
No. 3-Freshman Ruslan Anvnev (Novorossysk, Russia)/Sophomore Alexis Diaz (Bordeaux, France) defeated Jack Contrucci/Demitri Serrano, 6-0.
Singles:
No. 1-Martinez defeated Eutsey, 6-4, 7-5.
No. 2-Deschamps defeated Maritz, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 3-Anvnev defeated Ogrizovich, 6-3, 6-0.
No. 4-Caratti defeated Contrucci, 6-2, 6-0.
No. 5-Diaz defeated Ross, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 6-Ruiz defeated Serrano, 6-2, 6-1.

No. 2-Freshman Hannah Brown (Marshall, Mo.)/Freshman Laura Moreno lost to Finn/Rojas, 3-6.
No. 3-Junior Tristan Liebenberg (Hatbeespoort, South Africa)/Freshman Deborah Mhizha lost to Arsys Rojas/Tarmane Artday, 3-6.
Singles:
No. 1-Martinez defeated Llamas, 1-6, 6-2, 11-9.
No. 2-Brown lost to Wolfe, 6-7, 4-6.
No. 3-Casas lost to Finn, 4-6, 2-6.
No. 4-Liebenberg lost to M. Rojas, 1-6, 3-6.
No. 5-Moneno defeated A. Rojas, 7-5, 6-3.
No. 6-Mhizha defeated Artday, 6-3, 6-0.
The men's team improves to 2-3 on the season, while the women's team drops to 2-3.
Up next, the Viking tennis teams will play at home for the first time in the spring season, hosting Evangel (Mo.) in matches at 12:30pm at Indian Foothills Park.
