Men's Soccer Suffers Home Loss to Park

Marshall, Mo., (Oct. 4, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams hosted Park (Mo.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium Saturday evening.  The No. 6 women's team worked back from an early deficit to earn a 4-2 win.  The men's team fell to the Pirates, 2-0.

Possession was traded through much of play in the first half.  Both teams struggled to create chances on goal.  The first quality chance came from Missouri Valley, with less than eight minutes to play before the break.  The shot from Junior Forward Luis Mencos (Madrid, Spain) was saved by the Park keeper.  The Vikings held the Pirates to no shots on goal in the first half of play, and the contest was scoreless going into halftime.

The second half began with Park building up pressure in the early minutes.  A corner kick eventually led the game's first goal, as the Pirates took a 1-0 lead with five minutes off the clock.  Senior Goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) came up with three saves over the next stretch of play to keep MVC in a one-goal deficit.  Nearing the midway point of the half, a Viking player received a red card, committing a foul in the penalty box.  The ensuing penalty kick resulted in another Park goal. Missouri Valley trailed, 2-0, and was forced to play the final 21-minute down one player.  The Vikings had possession near the Pirate box trying to work back into the game, but could only produce one more shot on goal in the closing minutes of the contest.  The attempt from Sophomore Midfielder Ethan Quarchioni (Bournemouth, England) was saved, and Missouri Valley fell, 2-0.

Benitez Delgado made four saves in goal.  Missouri Valley got off five shots and created three corner kicks.

The loss drops the Vikings to 4-4-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the Heart.  Park improves to 3-6-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams go to Oskaloosa, Iowa, for a Heart doubleheader with William Penn (Iowa), Oct. 11.  The No. 6 women's team plays at 11 a.m., while the men's team takes on the No. 7 Statesmen at 1:30 p.m.
