No. 25 Men's Soccer Plays William Woods to Tie at Home

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 23, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams hosted William Woods (Mo.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.  The No. 6 women's team built up a first half lead, and earned a 5-1 win.  The No. 25 men's team used a second half goal to secure a 1-1 tie.

The men's game started with William Woods creating the first chance on goal, coming with four minutes played in the contest.  Senior Goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) made the save to keep the teams scoreless.  The Owls had the better of possession through the next stretch of play, but the Viking defense held WWU to no shots on goal over a 25-minute stretch.  Nearing the 30-minute mark, Benitez Delgado came up with his second save of the game.  William Woods continued to build up pressure, and eventually came through with a goal as the half went under nine minutes to play before the break to go in front, 1-0.  The Vikings came back to produce their best chances in the final six minute of the half, as both Sophomore Forward Felipe Hernandez Carrasco (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Sophomore Forward Oliver Baladi (Frederikssund, Denmark) put shots on goal, but both attempts were saved.  Missouri Valley went into halftime trailing, 1-0.

The first chance on goal in the second half came with just over five minutes played, as the shot from William Woods was saved by Benitez Delgado.  Just over 12-minutes later, Missouri Valley had its first attempt on goal, as the shot from Freshman Forward Davor Markinkovic (Santa Cruz Bolivia) was saved.  The Vikings continued to keep possession over the next several minutes, and produced another quality chance.  Hernandez Carrasco and Sophomore Midfielder Yannick Muller (Dietmannsried, Germany) worked together to set up Senior Forward Shiko Kiyomiya (Tokyo, Japan) with a shot, and the attempt got past the WWU keeper and into goal to tie the teams at 1-1 near the 67-minute mark.  The two teams traded possession through the next stretch of play.  William Woods created three late corner kick opportunities in the final seven minutes.  Benitez Delgado came up with another save as the clock went down to three minutes remaining to keep the teams tied.  Missouri Valley was unable to create any late shots on goal, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Kiyomiya scored his third goal of the season, while Muller added his second assist and Hernandez Carrasco recorded his first assist.  Benitez Delgado made four saves.  Missouri Valley produced eight shots and created four corner kicks.

Missouri Valley moves to 2-3-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the Heart.  William Woods sits at 2-4-3 on the season and 0-2-3 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams travel to Lamoni, Iowa for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Graceland (Iowa), Saturday evening.  Women's game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
