No. 25 Men's Soccer Drops Road Game at Central Methodist

Fayette, Mo., (Sept. 17, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Fayette, Mo., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader with Central Methodist (Mo.), Wednesday evening.  The No. 6 women's team used a late goal to secure a 2-2 against the No. 18 Eagles.  The No. 25 men's team fell, 1-0.

Play in the men's game began with both teams struggling to create quality chances.  The first shot on goal came with more than 27 minutes played, as the shot from Sophomore Defender Shosei Watanabe (Tokyo, Japan) was saved.  Few opportunities came over the next stretch of play, until late in the half.  Senior Goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) made his first save of the contest with just over three minutes to play before the break, and the two teams went into halftime scoreless.

The two teams traded possession through much of play in the second half.  The first chance on goal came with nearly 30-minutes played, when Central Methodist scored on its shot to move in front, 1-0.  The Vikings countered just over one minute later with a shot on goal, but the attempt from Senior Forward Shiko Kiyomiya (Tokyo, Japan) was saved.  Missouri Valley could only produce one more quality opportunity, coming with less than four minutes remaining.  The shot from Sophomore Midfielder Bartomeu Trias (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) was kept out of goal, and the Vikings fell, 1-0.

Benitez Delgado made one save in goal.  Missouri Valley held a 12-9 advantage in shots, and created eight corner kicks.

Missouri Valley drops to 1-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Heart.  Central Methodist improves to 3-2-3 on the season and 1-1-2 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams will host Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart doubleheader, Saturday afternoon inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.  Women's game starts at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 3:30 p.m.
