No. 14 Men's Soccer Plays No. 20 Clarke to a Tie on the Road

Dubuque, Iowa, (Sept. 13, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's soccer traveled to Dubuque, Iowa for a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader against Clarke (Iowa), Saturday.  The No. 9 women's team pulled away for a 3-0 win.  After falling behind early, the No. 14 men's team played No. 20 Clarke to a 2-2 tie.

The men's game began with Clarke going in front early, scoring a goal just over one minute into play to sit on top, 1-0.  Missouri Valley came back with its first quality chance four minutes later, as a shot was saved.  The Pride responded, and put another shot on goal, but the attempt was saved by Senior Goalkeeper Tom Youden (London, England) just over eight minutes into the contest.  The two teams traded possession over the next several minutes until another shot on goal was created by the Vikings. Freshman Forward Felipe Delcorco (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put his shot past the CU keeper and into goal to tie the teams at 1-1 near the 19-minute mark.  Both teams struggled to create chances through the next 25-minutes, and went into halftime tied at one goal apiece.

The second half began with the two teams trading possession early.  Missouri Valley created the first shot on goal in the half, coming nearly 12-minutes into play, as the attempt from Sophomore Midfielder Rodrigo Diaz (Chicago, Ill.) was saved.  One minute later, Senior Forward Shiko Kiyomiya (Tokyo, Japan) tested the Clarke keeper, but the attempt was saved once again.  Midway through the half, the Vikings built up pressure on the Pride, and Freshman Forward Davor Marinkovic (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) sent a shot into goal to move the team in front, 2-1.  Clarke came back, and put two shots on goal with less than 17-minutes remaining in the game.  Youden saved both attempts to keep MVC in front.  Delcoroco came close to extending the Viking advantage, as a header was saved near the 81-minute mark.  The Pride pressured Missouri Valley late, and eventually was awarded a penalty kick, after a foul was called in the Viking box with 15-seconds to play in the contest.  Clarke scored on the late penalty kick chance to tie the contest, and end the game at 2-2.

Delcorco and Marinkovic both scored their first goals of the season.  Youden made three saves in goal.  Missouri Valley held an 11-10 edge in shots and created four corner kicks.

Missouri Valley moves to 1-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the Heart.  Clarke sits at 3-1-3 on the season and 1-1-1 in the conference.

Up next, the Viking soccer teams go to Fayette, Mo., for a Heart doubleheader against Central Methodist (Mo.).  The No. 9 Viking women's soccer team plays the No. 21 Eagles at 5 p.m., followed by the No. 14 men's team playing at 7:30 p.m.
