No. 9 Men's Soccer Plays Rocky Mountain to a High Scoring Tie

Baldwin City, Kan., (Aug. 30, 2025)- The No. 9 Missouri Valley College men's soccer team traveled to Baldwin City, Kan., for a non-conference neutral-site contest with Rocky Mountain (Mont.).  The two teams combined for eight goals, playing to a 4-4 tie.

Play started with Rocky Mountain producing the better chances early, forcing Senior Goalkeeper Vicente Benitez Delgado (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) into a save five minutes into the contest.  Just over one minute later, another shot for Rocky Mountain went into the net, and put the team in front, 1-0.  The next several minutes featured more shots for Rocky Mountain, and Benitez Delgado needed to make another save to keep the Vikings at a one-goal deficit.  With a little more than 14-minutes gone in the half, MVC worked possession onto the Rocky Mountain box, forcing a foul to produce a penalty kick.  Sophomore Midfielder Bartomeu Trias (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) stepped up to the spot, and scored on his attempt to tie the game at 1-1.  The two teams traded possession over the next stretch, with Missouri Valley eventually testing the Rocky Mountain keeper again.  Nearing the 29-minute mark, Sophomore Defender Shosei Watanabe (Tokyo, Japan) set up Freshman Forward Davor Marinkovic (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) with a goal to send the team in front, 2-1.  Both teams struggled to create quality chances until late in the half.  Rocky Mountain found a tying goal with less than five minutes remaining, and the teams went into halftime tied at 2-2.

The second half began with Rocky Mountain building up pressure quickly after the restart, scoring in less than two minutes to move ahead, 3-2.  Moments later, Benitez Delgado made another save for the Vikings.  The first attempt on goal for MVC came near the 67-minute mark, as a shot from Sophomore Midfielder Yannick Muller (Dietmansried, Germany) was saved.  Missouri Valley eventually worked another chance, and the shot from Sophomore Forward Felipe Hernandez Carrasco (Buenos Aires, Argentina) got past the keeper and into goal to tie the teams again, at 3-3, with just over 18-minutes to play in the game.  Hernandez Carrasco added another quality chance eight minutes later, but the attempt was saved.  The Vikings came through with a late go-ahead goal, as Trias scored his second of the contest, making it a 4-3 game with under three minutes remaining.  However, a late free kick eventually led to a final shot in the MVC box for Rocky Mountain, ending in a goal with less than 15-second to play.  The teams finished at a 4-4 tie.

Trias had two goals, while Hernandez Carrasco and Marinkovic each added one goal.  Watanabe registered one assist.  Benitez Delgado made three saves in goal.  Missouri Valley held a 12-10 advantage in shots and created the only two corner kicks in the game.

The Vikings move to 0-1-1 and Rocky Mountain sits at 0-0-1.

Up next, the Viking men's soccer team plays another match in Baldwin City, Kan., Monday at 12 p.m., against Morningside (Iowa.).
