Rodeo Teams Both Take First, Capture First in Five Events
Livingston, Ala., (Sept. 28, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's rodeo teams competed over the weekend at the West Alabama rodeo in Livingston, Ala. Both teams captured first place, capturing top places in the average of five events.
In bareback riding, the Viking cowboys had five of the top six finishers in the average. Both Senior Kooper Heimburg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) and Sophomore Collin Roland (Childersburg, Ala.) tied for first with a 156 in the average. Heimburg won the first go-round with an 84 and was third in the second go-round with a 72, while Roland was third in the first go-round with a 76 and won the second go-round with an 80. Both earned 155 points apiece. Finishing third in the average was Sophomore Jason Wilson (Bennington, Vt.) with a 151.5, which included a 76 to place third in the first go-round and a 75.5 to place second in the second go-round. Wilson earned 130 points. Senior Haden Leavell (Ozark, Ark.) was fifth in the average with a 139, after rides of 69 and 70, and earned 45 points. Sophomore Judd Pope (Garnett, Kan.) was sixth in the average with a 76, after finishing third in the first go-round with a 76 to earn 50 points. Also, Freshman Kade Parrish (LaValle, Wisc.) had a 70 in the first go-round to finish fifth, and earned 20 points.
Also for the men's team, Pope was first in the saddle bronc riding average with a 143, winning the first go-round with a 73 and placing second in the second go-round with a 70. Pope earned 170 points. Freshman Creek Caldwell (Bainbridge, Ind.) was second in the average with a 57 after placing second in the first go-round with a 57 to earn 100 points. Junior Walker McAbee (Woodruff, S.C.) won the second go-round with a 71 and earned 60 points, and Freshman Riley McGuire (Harrisville, Pa.) was third in the second go-round with a 55 to earn 40 points. Another champion in the average was Freshman Jace Hensley (Paola, Kan.) in bull riding, with an 81. Hensley won the first go-round with the 81 and earned 120 points. Additionally, Junior Carson Ball (Bruner, Mo.) finished sixth in the steer wrestling average with a 13.1, which included a 6.3 in the first go-round and a 6.8 to place fifth in the second go-round to collect 20 points.
The women's team was led by Junior Addi Williams (Harrisburg, Ark.), who was first in the breakaway roping average with a 5.6. Williams was second in both go-rounds with 2.4 and 3.2, and collected 160 points. Sophomore Kate Brisbane (Kearney, Mo.) won the second go-round with a 3.0, and finished with a 5.9 in the average to finish second. Brisbane totaled 110 points. Also placing first was Freshman Addy Derr (Paola, Kan.) in the goat tying average, with a 16.1. Derr finished third in the first go-round with an 8.3 and won the second go-round with a 7.8 to earn 160 points. Freshman Victoria Whitehead (Jones, Okla.) was third in the average with a 17.4, after finishing fifth in the first go-round with an 8.6 and second in the second go-round with an 8.8 to collect 100 points. Junior Zoe Tunks (King City, Mo.) was fifth in the average with a 17.6 which included an 8.9 to place third in the second go-round to earn 60 points. Junior Daily Orman (Blakesburg, Iowa) was fourth in the first go-round with an 8.5 to earn 30 points.
As a team, the Viking cowboys earned a total of 780 points to finish first overall. West Alabama was second with 565 points. The Viking cowgirls finished first with a total of 370 points. Northwest Mississippi was second with 370 points.
