Men's Lacrossse Closes Season With Road Contest at Ottawa
Ottawa, Kan., (April 22, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College men's lacrosse team traveled to Ottawa, Kan., for a Heart of America Athletic Conference contest with Ottawa (Kan.), Wednesday evening. The Vikings fell by a final score of 11-4 to close out the season.
The two teams traded possession through a stretch of play to open the first quarter. The first shot on goal for either team came from Freshman Attack Kael Pierquet (Sobieski, Wisc.) just over two minutes into play, which was saved. Freshman Goalkeeper Henry Mullen (Roy, Uta) made his first save less than one minute later. Midway through the quarter, the Vikings scored the game's first goal, as Ottawa turned possession over, and a ground ball was collected by Freshman Defender Preston Nicholson (Lee's Summit, Mo.). Nicholson then set up Pierquet with a shot got past the OU keeper to put Missouri Valley in front, 1-0. Moments after the ensuing faceoff, Junior Midfielder Jayden Franklin (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) set up Sophomore Midfielder Daniel Venson (Waldorf, Md.) with a shot that put MVC ahead 2-0. Mullen was called on for two more saves throughout the rest of the quarter to help keep the Vikings on top by two goals going into the second quarter.
Ottawa put pressure on Missouri Valley early in the second quarter, as Mullen made three saves in more than three minutes of play. The Braves eventually used an extra-man opportunity to score their first goal of the contest, then tacked on another goal moments after the following faceoff to tie the game at 2-2 just past the 11-minute mark. The two teams traded possession over the next stretch, but OU eventually went in front with six minutes to play in the half, holding a 3-2 lead. The Vikings were unable to put another shot on goal through the rest of the quarter, and went into halftime trailing by one goal.
Play in the third quarter began with a shot from Pierquet quickly after the restart, which was saved. Ottawa added to its lead a little more than two minutes into the quarter, then extended its advantage out to 6-2 at the 10-minute mark. The Braves added the first goal of the fourth quarter, but Jayden Franklin responded with a goal off an assist from Pierquet to make it a 7-3 score. Ottawa outscored the Vikings by a 4-1 margin over the final nine minutes of play. The final goal for MVC came from Pierquet, on an extra-man opportunity, Missouri Valley fell by an 11-4 final score.
Pierquet led with two goals and one assist, and Franklin had one goal and two assists to go with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Mullen made 18 saves in goal. The Vikings forced 32 turnovers and collected 32 ground balls.
The loss drops Missouri Valley to 0-13 overall and 0-8 in the Heart to end the season. Ottawa moves to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
