Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Missouri Baptist

Marshall, Mo., (March 19, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's lacrosse teams hosted Missouri Baptist in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday evening inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.  The women's team fell to the No. 8 Spartans, while the Viking men's lacrosse team dropped its season-opening game.

 

 

The men's game featured Senior Goalkeeper Jake Lipscomb (Boiling Springs, S.C.) coming up with three saves in the first quarter.  The Vikings limited chances on goal in the second quarter, as Lipscomb made two saves, while the first goal of the game for MVC came with less than two minutes before the break from Senior Attack Carson Wiley (Carstairs, Alberta).  Freshman Midfielder Shiloh Martin (Upper Marlboro, Md.) registered the assist.  The Spartans went into halftime on top, 12-1.  Missouri Baptist continued to increase its lead through much of play in the third and fourth quarters.  Senior Defender Alvaro Atienza (Madrid, Spain) added the final goal of the contest for MVC, as the team fell, 22-2.

 

The men's team was led by Atienza Wiley (Carstairs, Alberta), who both scored one goal, while Martin added one assist.  Lipscomb made 14 saves in goal and caused seven turnovers.  The Vikings forced 17 turnovers as a team, and came up with 29 total ground balls, led by Atienza with five ground balls.  Missouri Valley fell by a final score of 22-2

 

The loss drops Missouri Valley to 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Heart, while Missouri Baptist improves to 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.

 

Up next, the Viking lacrosse teams go to Atchison, Kan., for a Heart doubleheader with Benedictine (Kan.), Saturday afternoon.  Women's game at 1 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
