Golf Teams Host MVC Fall Invitational

Marshall, Mo., (Sept. 10, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams hosted the MVC Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Indian Foothills Park.  Both teams finished second overall in the standings of the three-round tournament.  The men's team produced the individual champion, and the women's team produced one finisher in the top five.

 

In total, five separate men's teams played in the tournament.  The "A" team was led by Junior Chad Coburn (Bloemfontein, South Africa) who finished the three-round tournament with a score of -3 (213) to tie for first place.  Coburn won the individual title on the sixth playoff hole, and posted the lowest score of any golfer in the field, with a -4 (68) in the second round.  Junior Nelius De Jager (Upington, South Africa) followed in fifth place with a +1 (217), and also posted a -4 (68) in the first round.  Senior Cade Basson (George, South Africa) placed tenth with a +3 (219), and had a -1 (71) in the first round.  Sophomore Valentin Bosdari (Mendoza, Argentina) finished out the team scorers with a +5 (221) to place No. 13 in the standings.  Sophomore Sebastian Liffers (Heitersheim, Germany) shot a +7 (223) to come in at No. 19.

 

The "B" team was led by Freshman Landin Neill (Smithville, Mo.) who placed seventh overall with a +2 (218), which included a -2 (70) in the second round.  Freshman Brad Storrer (Harare, Zimbabwe) was No. 11 with a +4 (220), and shot a -2 (70) in the first round.  Junior Dominic Hoskin (Witham, England) placed at No. 22 with a +10 (226), and shot a -1 (71) in the second round.  Sophomore Ryan Van Eyk (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) finished out the team scores with a +15 (231) to place at No. 31 and Freshman Nolan Gordan (Salisbury, Mo.) came in at No. 42 with a +23 (239).

 

The Viking "C" team was led by Senior Jesus Perez (Sevilla, Spain) at No. 13 with a +5 (221), while Senior Joaquin Calderon (Quito, Ecuador) posted a +7 (223) to place at No. 19, which included a -2 (70) in the third round.  Junior Patrick Hauschildt (Hamburg, Germany) placed at No. 37 with a +18 (234) and Freshman Gabriel Pereira Leite (Lisbon, Portugal) had a +29 (245) to place at No. 49.  Junior Jules Garret (Lyon, France) came in at No. 55 with a +39 (255).

 

The "D" team was led by Sophomore Julia Ayape (Bayonne, France) at No. 22 with a +10 (226), while Freshman Mateo Cadario (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) shot a +14 (230), which included a -3 (69) in the first round, to place at No. 30.  Freshman Troy Watson (Westland, Mich.) added a +25 (241) to place at No. 44 and Senior Leonardo Borzaga (Trento, Italy) finished out the team scorers with a +29 (245) to place at No. 49.  Freshman Tomas Ayape (Bayonne, France) shot a +34 (250) and placed No. 53 overall.

 

The "E" team was led by Senior Isaac Taleb (Pereira, Colombia) with a +26 (242) to place at No. 46, followed by Freshman Guillermo Gil Llorens (Alcala de Henares, Spain) at No. 49 with a +29 (245), Freshman Tyler Adams (St. Charles, Mo.) at No. 52 with a +33 (249), Freshman Jacob Salas (Hillsboro, Mo.) at No. 57 with a +53 (269) and Freshman Hayden Johnson (St. Clair, Mo.) at No. 61 with a +97 (313).

 

Sophomore Jackson Tobias (Warrenton, Mo.) played as an individual, and had a final score of +106 (322) to place at No. 62.

 

The men's "A" team finished second in the standings with a +2 (866) score, six shots back of Central Methodist (Mo.).  The "B" team was fourth with a +29 (893), the "C" team was seventh with a +56 (920), the "D" team was ninth with a +75 (939), and the "E" team was No. 12 with a +141 (1005).

 

Leading the women's team was Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany), who shot a three-round score of +44 (260) and finished ten strokes behind first place.  Rieker had the third-lowest score of the first round with a +12 (84).  Two other Vikings placed in the top ten, including Sophomore Kendra Warden (Ontario, Canada) at sixth overall with a +49 (265) and Junior Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) came in at ninth with a +54 (270).  Finishing out the team scorers was Freshman Sydney Righter (Camdenton, Mo.) with a +64 (280) to place at No. 13.  Freshman Victoria Menard Varela (Coruna, Spain) placed at No. 16 with a +75 (291).  Two Vikings played as individuals.  Freshman Shelby Welling (Jefferson City, Mo.) came in at No. 19 with a +83 (299) and Freshman Ariana Chapa (Edinburg, Texas) finished at No. 20 with a +92 (308).

 

As a team, Missouri Valley had a total score of +208, and finished second overall, seven strokes behind Central Methodist (Mo.).
