Bowling Advances to Championship Tournament at Jayhawk Challenge

Wichita, Kan., (Oct. 28, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College bowling team continued its season competing at the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge in Lawrence, Kan.  The Vikings finished in the top five overall, qualifying for the championship tournament.

 

Individually, the team was led by Freshman Dakota Lind (Benton, Ark.), who placed at No. 14 overall and finished with a total of 1,018 pins in five games bowled, for an average of 203.6 pins per game.  Senior Guy Maptstone (Sourlake, Texas) followed at No. 33 with a 949 total in five games for a 189.8 average.  Next in the average was Freshman Jade Craigen (Olive Branch, Miss.), finishing with a 401 total in two games bowled for an average of 200.5 pins per game.  Freshman Kaden Summers (Moscow, Idaho) placed at No. 54 and totaled 891 pins in five games for a 178.2 average.  Senior Nicholas Miles (Rockledge, Fla.) bowled three games for a total of 555 pins and a 185 in the average, and finishing out the team was Senior Wyatt Grunwald (Rathdrum, Idaho) at No. 59 overall with a total of 873 pins in five games bowled for an average of 174.6.

 

The Vikings finished with a total of 4,687 pins in five team games, for a 937.4 average, and followed with a total of 2,833 in 16 Baker games for a 177.1 average.  Missouri Valley totaled 7,520 pins and placed at fifth in the standings to qualify for the championship tournament.

 

In the championship tournament, the Vikings were seeded No. 5, and opened with a quarterfinal match against No. 4 seed Ottawa (Kan.).  The Vikings fell, 2-1, in games.  Missouri Valley dropped the first game, 148-183, then bounced back to win the second game, 195-182.  The third game ended with a 175-193 defeat.

 

Up next, the bowling teams will compete at the Lions Match Play Classic hosted by Lindenwood (Mo.), in St. Charles, Mo., Saturday and Sunday.
