Bowling Opens Season With Second Place Finish at Bulldog Bash
Richmond, Ky., (Oct. 8, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College bowling team opened its season with competition at the Bulldog Bash in Richmond, Ky., over the weekend. The Viking finished second overall at the event, with a pair of top ten individuals.
Individually, the team was led by Freshman Jaden Craigen (Olive Branch, Miss.), who finished with a total of 774 pins in four games bowled, for a 193.5 average, to place ninth overall. Senior Wyatt Grunwald (Rathdrum, Idaho) followed in tenth, with a total of 764 pins in four games, for a 191 average. Freshman Dakota Lind (Benton, Ark.) placed at No. 11 with 755 pins in four games, for an average of 188.75, as Freshman Kaden Summers (Moscow, Idaho) placed at No. 15 with a total of 722 pins in four games, for an average of 180.5. The team was rounded out by Senior Nicholas Miles (Rockledge, Fla.), who finished with 670 total pins in four games, to have a 167.5 average and place at No. 23.
As a tea, the Vikings finished with 3,685 pins in the team games, and added 2,197 pins in the Baker games, for a total score of 5,882 pins. Missouri Valley placed second overall, behind first place SCAD (Ga.), with a total of 5,989 pins. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) was third with 5,855 pins.
The bowling "B" team also competed, and was led by Senior Guy Mapstone (Sourlake, Texas) who finished at No. 14 overall with a total of 732 pins in four games, for a 183 average. Sophomore Natalie Briggs (Tucson, Ariz.) came in at No. 24 with a total of 640 pins in four games, for a 160 average, followed by Junior Kayla Cowell (Ponchatoula, La.) at No. 32 with a total of 551 pins in four games, for a 137.75 average. Freshman Charles Raney (Marshall, Mo.) placed at No. 33 with a total of 533 pins in four games, for a 133.25 average, and Freshman Kyle Payne (Basehor, Kan.) rounded out the "B" team with a 515 total in four games, for a 128.75 average.
The "B" team finished with 2,971 pins in the team games, and 1,829 pins in the Baker games to finish with a total of 4,800 pins.
Up next, the bowling teams will compete at the Mid-States Championship in Wichita, Kan., Oct. 19-20.
