Men's Basketball Suffers Road Loss at Graceland
Lamoni, Iowa, (Nov. 15, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College basketball teams traveled to Lamoni, Iowa, to open play in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a doubleheader against Graceland (Iowa), Saturday afternoon. The women's team came back from a halftime deficit to earn a 75-72 win. The men's team fell to No. 23 Yellowjackets, by a final score of 81-35.
The men's game started with Graceland building up an 8-0 lead. The first field goal of the contest for Missouri Valley came nearly five minutes into play, on a layup from Junior Devin Davenport (Milwaukee, Wisc.). Senior Antwon Ferrell (Newman, Ga.) followed with a three-pointer to cut the deficit down to 8-5 moments later. The Yellowjackets responded with a 10-0 run to build up a double-digit lead midway through the first half, 21-11. Graceland kept MVC scoreless for a nearly four-minute stretch of play, and Ferrell ended the Vikings drought with a pair of free throws to put the gap at 27-13. Later in the half, Junior Keanu Patrick (Biloxi, Miss.) made a layup, while Freshman Damario Moss (Lexington, Mo.) put in a jump shot to put the team's deficit at 41-21 going into the second half.
The second half began with Graceland adding to its advantage after the restart. Davenport put in the first field goal of the half for MVC, but the team eventually trailed, 57-23, near the 15-minute mark. The Vikings were unable to cut into their deficit through the rest of play in the half, and fell by a final score of 81-35.
Davenport led with eight points and three rebounds, while Sophomore Darrin Thompson added seven points off the bench. Patrick had four points, nine rebounds and four blocks. The Vikings forced eight turnovers and blocked six shots.
The loss drops Missouri Valley to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Heart. Graceland improves to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.
Up next, the Viking men's team will travel to Maryville, Mo., for a non-conference game against Northwest Missouri State, Monday at 7 p.m. Both teams will travel to Fulton, Mo., for a Heart doubleheader with William Woods (Mo.), Saturday. Women's game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
