Football Suffers Loss on the Road to No. 3 Benedictine

Atchison, Kan., (Nov. 1, 2025)-The Missouri Valley College football team traveled to Atchison, Kan., to play No. 3 Benedictine (Kan.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference South Division contest Saturday afternoon.  The Vikings suffered a loss in the match up.

Missouri Valley received the opening kickoff, but punted after three plays.  Benedictine followed with a scoring drive on its first possession, moving in front, 7-0, with four minutes played in the contest.  The next drive for MVC ended after three plays once again, and the Ravens responded with a one-play drive to extend their advantage to 14-0 still early in the first quarter.

The Vikings used three-straight rushes from Sophomore Running Back Silas Morton (Strafford, Mo.) to pick up a first down on its next possession, and eventually reached midfield, but the drive was stopped and the team was forced into another punt.  Benedictine took the ensuing possession into MVC territory, and Senior Defensive Back Bryan Sarante (Sacramento, Calif.) came up with a tackle-for-loss to help push BC back.  However, three-straight completions ended the drive, and the final pass resulted in a touchdown to make it a 21-0 score with two minutes to play in the first quarter.

With time winding down in the quarter, Missouri Valley was forced into a punt, and Benedictine made a play on special teams. The punt was blocked and the loose ball was collected by BC and returned for a touchdown to extend the advantage to 28-0 going into the second quarter of play.  The ensuing drive for the Vikings ended on a turnover, as BC recovered a fumble inside Missouri Valley territory.  Two plays later, the MVC deficit grew to 35-0, with less than three minutes played in the second quarter.

Benedictine forced the Viking offense into two more punts through the next stretch of the quarter, and the Ravens added another pair of touchdowns to increase their lead.  Missouri Valley had the final possession of the half, but could not cut the gap down before halftime, and trailed after two quarters of play, 49-0.

The third quarter featured a turnover forced by the Viking defense, as Freshman Defensive Back Nick Carlisle (Apex, N.C.) came up with an interception near the midway point of the quarter.  Missouri Valley also cut into its deficit at the start of the fourth quarter, as Staples connected with Senior Wide Receiver Nate Pouliot (Clearwater, Fla.) twice on a drive.  The first completion was for 26 yards, then the possession was capped by a 17-yard touchdown completion to Pouliot.  Sophomore Kicker Bruno Kincaid (Madrid, Spain) added the extra-point.  The Vikings were unable to cut the deficit down through the rest of the game, and fell, 66-7.

Staples finished with 104 yards passing and one touchdown, completing 12 of 23 passes.  Morton had 33 yards rushing on 12 carries, while Pouliot totaled three receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown.

Senior Defensive Back Octavious Griffin (Decatur, Ga.) led with 10 tackles and two pass break-ups.  Sophomore Linebacker Jayden Maggert (Concordia, Mo.) had nine tackles.  Carlisle had one tackle and one interception.

Freshman Punter Ben Bullock (Perth, Australia) averaged 30.1 yards per punt on nine punts, with a long punt of 46 yards.  Kincaid made his only extra-point attempt.

Missouri Valley falls to 3-5 overall and 0-4 in the Heart South Division.  Benedictine improves to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the division.

Up next, the Viking football team will host MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) for Senior Day, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m., inside Volney C. Ashford Stadium.
