Cheer Places in Top Five at UCA Nationals

Orlando, Fla., (Jan. 19, 2024)- The Missouri Valley College cheer team opened its competition season at the UCA Nationals in Orlando, Fla., this weekend.  The team advanced to the championship round, and finished in the top five of the final standings.

The Viking cheer team competed in the Open Small Coed division, and was one of five teams to advance out of the semifinals, into the final performance on Sunday.  The team earned a raw score of 82.0, with a one-point deduction to finish with an 81.0 in the semifinals.  In the championship round, the team posted a score of 83.7 with no deductions.

Missouri Valley placed fourth overall with the 83.7.  Iowa Western was first with an 87.4, followed by both Itawamba (Miss.) and Northwest (Miss.) with scores of 85.5 to place in a tie for second.  Coastal Alabama was fifth with an 80.8.

The cheer team will next compete at the Coyote Classic, hosted by Kansas Wesleyan, Jan. 31, in Salina, Kan.
