Women's Basketball Puts Two on Heart All-Conference Team, Including Newcomer of the Year
Marshall, Mo. (Feb. 26, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College women's basketball team has put two of its student-athletes on the 2026 Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference Team, released Thursday.
Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) was named to the all-conference first team, and was named the Heart Newcomer of the Year. Reeter earned both honors after leading the team in points per game (17.7), points scored (496), assists (132), and free throw percentage (.871).
Reeter also becomes the fourth player in program-history to earn the Heart Newcomer of the Year award (Kieanna Wharton in 2015, Bonnie Johnson in 2007, and Angie Cravey in 2000). Reeter impacted the program's record book for single-season stats, including a new program-record 87 made three-pointers. The 132 assists and .871 free throw percentage are both second all-time, scoring average of 17.7 is fourth most, and the 496 points scored is sixth best in a single-season.
Named to the all-conference second team is Senior Center Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain). Ortiz finished second on the team averaging 9.3 points per game, and led the team averaging 8.4 rebounds per game, and led total rebounds (219) and steals (33).
Ortiz set a single-game program record with 22 rebounds against Grand View (Iowa) on Jan. 10. Additionally, Ortiz shot .551 from the floor, which is third-best all-time in a single-season for the program, as is the 8.4 rebounds per game. Ortiz was also named to the Heart All-Defensive Team and becomes only the second player in program-history to earn the selection (Giavanna Moore in 2025).
The Viking women's basketball finished with a 16-12 overall record, and a 13-7 record in the Heart in the fifth season under Head Coach Ben Lister. The team earned a berth into the Heart Postseason Championship for the fifth straight season.
