Women's Basketball Sweeps Weekly Heart Awards
Marshall, Mo., (Jan. 12, 2026)- The Missouri Valley College women's basketball team has swept the weekly Heart of America Athletic Conference awards for their play in two wins last week.
Junior Guard Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe, Mo.) was named the Heart Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon Technologies, and Senior Center Sara Ortiz (La Roda, Spain) was named the Heart Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, presented by WinWon Technologies.
Reeter earned the offensive award after recording double-double performances in the 90-57 win over Park (Mo.) and the 66-42 victory against Grand View (Iowa). Reeter had 16 points and 11 assists against Park and tallied 15 points and 11 assists against Grand View.
Ortiz earned the defensive award after posting a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds in the Park contest, and followed with a record-setting performance against Grand View. Ortiz scored eight points and grabbed 22 total rebounds, 17 on the defensive side, in the win over Grand View. The 22 rebounds broke a program single-game record, previously set at 21 rebounds by Bonnie Johnson back in Feb. of 2008.
Reeter picked up her second weekly award of the season, after earning the honor back on Dec. 22. Ortiz earned her first award of the season, and second of her career. Ortiz earned the defensive award last season, back on Dec. 2, 2024.
The Viking women's basketball team is currently 10-6 overall and one game back of first place in the Heart standings with a 7-2 conference record.
Up next, the MVC basketball teams host Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a Heart doubleheader, Wednesday evening. Women's game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
