Weightlifter Captures First Place at Strength Works Open

St. Louis, Mo., (Nov. 25, 2025)-  A Missouri Valley College weightlifter competed at the Strength Works Open in St. Louis, M., and set new records to capture first place.

 

Corey Morabito competed at the event, in the men's 60kg weight class, and finished with a lift of 65kg/143lbs in the snatch, and a clean and jerk total of 102kg/255lbs.  Morabito's total was 167kg/368lbs, setting a new personal record.  Morabito also set a new personal record in the clean and jerk.  On the day, Morabito captured first place in the snatch and clean and jerk, and was first overall in his weight class.

 

Up next, the Viking weightlifters will compete in the program's second-ever home event, hosting the USA Weightlifting Viking Invitational, Feb. 28 inside the Burns Athletic Complex.  The powerlifting team will next compete at the Missouri State Championships in Liberty, Mo., Feb. 21-22.

The MVC Vikings Powerlifters have now qualified Audrey Schoch, Sarah Khamis, Karianna Sanchez, Desiree Alaniz, Delaney Welker, Presleigh Watson, Syrah Garcia, Ria Gardner, Emily Andujo, Nicholas Ballard, Corey Morabito, Xavier Ellis, Gabriel Pineda, Hannah Miller, Alexis Duenas, Kaleb Bobbitt-Dollison, Caiden Sanford, Nicholas Moore, Matthew Nong, Blake Andrews and Myles Mobley for the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals being held in New Orleans, La., on April 9-12, 2026

The MVC Vikings Weightlifters have now qualified Jaden Lambert, Ishmael Foster, Nick Martinez, Jedidiah Kracl, Madison Woodworth, Corey Morabito, Thomas Gearllach and Ontarriyus Reid for the USA Weightlifting University Nationals, held on April 9-12, 2026 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
