Shotgun Sports Compete at ACUI Midwest Conference Championship

Sparta, Ill., (Oct. 15, 2025)-  The Missouri Valley College shotgun sports team competed at the ACUI Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship in Sparta, Ill.  The Vikings finished in the top ten overall.

 

Individually, the Vikings were led by Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.), who finished with a perfect 100/100 in American trap, one of only 13 competitors to finish with a perfect score in the event.  Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (California, Mo.) finished at No. 31 overall with a 98/100, while the trio of Freshman Sam Morehead (Bernard, Iowa), Freshman Dominic Senuca (New Castle, Calif.) and Freshman Griffin Mecham (Spanish Fork, Utah) each totaled 96/100.  On the women's side, both Sophomore Paige Burns (Goodridge, Minn.) and Sophomore Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas) finished with the second-highest scores of competitors, both totaling a 98/100.  Sophomore Madi Scott (Kaysville, Utah) finished with a 94/100 and Sophomore Makenna Parr (Arlington, Iowa) totaled a 93/100 to also place in the top 20.

 

In American Skeet, Zaugg led with a 97/100 to place at No. 23, and both Duffin and Freshman Cole Ousley (Eugene, Mo.) totaled scores of 92/100 apiece to finish in the top 70.  Two women's competitors placed in the top ten, as Scott and Burns both totaled 96/100 to finish in a tie for seventh, followed by Senior Josie Stuver (Carrollton, Mo.) who came in at No. 11 with a 95/100.

 

Duffin led the team in sporting clays, finishing in a tie for eighth with an 85/100, and the women's team was led by Simmons with a tie for eighth totaling 67/100.  In doubles skeet, Duffin led with a 45/100 to finish in the top 40, while both Scott and Simmons totaled 39/50 apiece to tie for No. 12 in the women's standings.

 

In the overall standings, Duffin led the men's team with a 277 total to place in a tie for No. 15, finishing 13 targets behind the individual leader.  Zaugg followed at No. 61 with a 261 total.  Simmons led the women's team with a total of 252 to place at No. 11, 33 targets behind first place.  Scott followed at No. 13 with a 250, and Burns came in at No. 15 with a 243 total.

 

As a team, the Viking finished eighth in the standings, with a total of 1,329, 90 targets behind first place Fort Hays State (Kan.).

 

Up next, the Viking shotgun sports team will host the Missouri Valley Fall Blast, Oct. 25-26, in Columbia, Mo., at Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports Complex.
