Shotgun Sports Opens Fall Season at Midland Warrior Invitational

Lincoln, Neb., (Sept. 23, 2025)-  The Missouri Valley shotgun sports team opened its fall competition season at the Midland (Neb.) Warrior Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., over the weekend.  The event featured more than 250 competitors.

 

Leading the team is two-time National champion Sophomore Olivia Simmons (Flower Mound, Texas), who finished second in the women's skeet standings with a 97/100.  Simmons also added an 85/100 in sporting clays and totaled a 259/300 on the weekend, placing No. 14 in the overall standings.  Also for the women's team, Sophomore Paige Burns (Goodridge, Minn.) had a 92/100 in trap and a 92/100 in skeet to finish with a total of 244/300, while Sophomore Madi Scott (Kaysville, Utah) had a 93/100 in trap and an 85/100 in skeet to also total a 244/300.  The pair tied for No. 32 in the overall standings.  Senior Josie Stuver (Carrollton, Mo.) finished with an 89/100 in trap and an 89/100 in skeet, producing a 237/300 overall to place at No. 35 in the standings.

 

On the men's side, Sophomore Jack Duffin (Novato, Calif.) advanced to the finals of trap with a perfect 100/100, tied with seven other competitors with perfect scores in the event.  Duffin added a 93/100 in skeet and an 87/100 in sporting clays to finish with a 280/300 final score to place in a tie for No. 11 in the overall standings.  Sophomore Dakota Zaugg (California, Mo.) added scores of 98/100 in skeet, 95/100 in trap and an 82/100 in sporting clays for a total of 275/300 to place at No. 25 in the overall standings.

 

"In true Viking spirit, the team showed true determination and hard work," said Head Coach Shawn Dulohery.  "I was very pleased with the performance, progress, teamwork and sportsmanship from each of the student-athletes.  This was a great way to start the year.  I'm very optimistic that the team will continue to work hard and continue the 'hard working' traditions of this program."

 

Up next, the Viking shotgun sports team will compete at the ACUI Fall Central/Midwest Conference Championship, Oct. 10-12 at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Ill.
