Men's Wrestling Tops Graceland on the Road

Lamoni, Iowa (Nov. 30, 2023)- The Missouri Valley College men's wrestling team traveled to Lamoni, Iowa, Thursday evening for a Heart of America Athletic Conference dual against Graceland (Iowa). The Vikings won six of the weight classes to earn a 32-16 victory.

 

125lbs: Sophomore Elijah Asuncion (Honolulu, Hawaii) defeated Denias Johnson in a 16-1 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 5-0.

133lbs: Freshman Haden Hernandez (Huntington Beach, Calif.) defeated Riley Harger in a 22-6 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 10-0.

141lbs: Junior Donavan Parn (Brookfield Mo.) lost to No. 11 Jackson Wenberg in an 8-5 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 10-3.

149lbs: No. 10 Senior Chase Zollmann (Poway, Calif.) defeated Zack Wicks in a first period (1:17) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 16-3.

157lbs: Junior Caleb Benshoof (Grain Valley, Mo.) lost to Juan R. Lopez III in a 5-4 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 16-6.

165lbs: Sophomore Cole Patten (Lebanon, Mo.) defeated Jett Nelson in a first period (0:30) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 22-6.

174lbs: Freshman Jokiah Sewell (Mexico, Mo.) lost to Jeraimiah Nyberg in a third period (1:03) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 22-11.

184lbs: Junior Brenden Parks (Elburn, III.) defeated No. 25 @174 Joseph Teguia in a third period (1:11) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 28-11.

197lbs: Sophomore Emmanuel Ayi-Bonte (Woodbridge, Va.) lost to John Shuttler in a 16-0 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 28-16.

285lbs: No. 6 Senior Joshua Isaac (Woodbridge, Va.) defeated Sam Fleming in a 13-3 major decision.

Missouri Valley defeats Graceland, 32-16.

 

Missouri Valley improves to 4-1 on the season in duals, while Graceland falls to 2-2.

 

"We had another good performance winning 6 of the matches," said Head Coach Pat Giangrosso. " The guys came out to battle and did a great job of scoring early in the match. I am proud of the effort they put out. We have time to work things out. We will compete again on December 16 @ Avila."

 

Up next, the Vikings men's wrestling team will compete at the Avila (Mo.) Duals in Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 16th.
