Powerlifting Sets A Record, Qualifies Lifters for Nationals at Regional Championship
Lebanon, Ill., (Feb. 9, 2025)- The Missouri Valley College powerlifting teams competed at the USA Powerlifting Collegiate Regional Championship in Lebanon, Ill., Saturday. Both Equipped teams placed first overall, and the women's Raw team was third. Four more members of the team qualified for Nationals, and one new American record was set.
Sophomore Corey Morabito (Lansdale,PA) placed first in the Men's Equipped Collegiate 56 kg Weight Class with a 200 kg/ 440.9 lb Squat, an 142.5kg/ 314.2 lb Bench Press, and a 205 kg/451.9 lb Deadlift, recording a 547.5 kg/ 1,207 lb total. Corey is now an American Record holder with his bench press from this meet. Corey also secured Men's Equipped Best Lifter. Corey previously qualified for USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals.
Freshman Delaney Welker (Mascoutah, IL) placed first in the Women's Equipped Collegiate 75kg weight class with a 137.5kg/ 303.1lb Squat, a 55kg/ 121.3 lb Bench Press, and a 142.5kg/ 314.2lb Deadlift, recording a 335 kg/ 738.5 lb total, qualifying for USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals.
Sophomore Azlyn Schwarzer (Burleson, TX) placed first in the Women's Equipped Collegiate 90 kg weight class with a 150 kg/ 330.7 lb Squat, a 85kg/ 187.4 lb Bench Press, and a 142.5kg/ 314.2 lb Deadlift, recording a 337.5 kg/ 744.1 lb total. Azlyn previously qualified for USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals.
Freshman Syrah Garcia (Encinal,TX) placed first in the Women's Equipped Collegiate 100+ kg weight class with a 180 kg/ 396.8 lb Squat, a 72.5 kg/ 159.8 lb Bench Press, and a 160 kg/ 352.7 lb Deadlift, recording a 412.5 kg/ 909.4lb total. Syrah previously qualified for USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals.
Junior Sara Spreeman (Bolingbrook, IL) placed second in the Women's Equipped Collegiate 100 + kg weight class with a 122.5 kg/270 lb Squat, a 82.5 kg/ 181.9 lb Bench Press, and a 127.5 kg/ 281.1lb Deadlift, recording a 332.5 kg/ 733 lb total.
Freshman Julia Bishop (Hart, MI) placed third in the Women's Equipped Collegiate 100+ kg weight class with a 107.5kg/ 237 lb Squat, a 60kg/ 132.3 lb Bench Press, and a 117.5kg/ 259 lb Deadlift, recording a 285 kg/ 628.3lb total.
Junior Grace Justus (Troy, MO) placed third in the Women's Raw Collegiate 56kg weight class with a 80 kg/ 176.4 lb Squat, a 40 kg/ 88.2 lb Bench Press, and a 85 kg/ 187.4 lb Deadlift, recording a 205 kg/ 451.9lb total.
Junior Sarah Khamis (Vienna, Austria) placed second in the Women's Raw Collegiate 60kg weight class with a 137.5 kg/ 303.1lb Squat, a 77.5 kg/ 170.9 lb Bench Press, and a 162.5 kg/ 358.2 lb Deadlift, recording a 377.5 kg/ 744.1lb total.
