Golf Teams Produce Individual Champion, Team Title at CMU Spring Invite

Boonville, Mo., (March 25, 2025)-  The Missouri Valley College men's and women's golf teams played in the Central Methodist (Mo.) Spring Invitational at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville, Mo., Monday and Tuesday.  Both teams produced the individual champion, and the men's team placed first overall in the standings.

 

Leading the team was Junior Chad Coburn (Bloemfontein, South Africa), who finished as the only player to have both rounds under-par.  Corburn had a -5 (66) in the first round, and followed with a -1 (70) in the second round to total a -6 (136).  He was tied atop the leaderboard by teammate Freshman Brad Storrer (Harare, Zimbabwe), who had the lowest round of any golfer at the tournament, posting a -7 (64) in the first round, and followed with a +1 (72) in the second round to have a -6 (136) final score.  The two went to a playoff to determine the out-right winner, and Coburn won on the first playoff hole to earn the individual title.

 

Following for the men's team was Freshman Mateo Cadario (Santa Cruz, Bolivia), who finished with a -1 (70) in the first round, and a final score of +3 (145) to place at No. 13.  Freshman Gabriel Pereira Leite (Lisbon, Portugal) came in at No. 17 with a final score of +6 (148) as the final team scorer.  Junior Nelius De Jager (Upington, South Africa) finished at No. 37 with a +12 (154).

 

Missouri Valley was the only team to finish under-par in the tournament, totaling a -3 (565), which included a -11 (273) in the first round.  The Vikings topped second place Northwestern (Iowa) by five strokes, and third place William Woods (Mo.) by 11 strokes.  Both teams are "receiving votes" in the latest coaches' poll.

 

The women's team was led by individual champion Junior Hanna Rieker (Munich, Germany), who finished at +10 (152), winning by two strokes.  Reiker had the lowest round of any women's golfer at the tournament, with a +1 (72) in the first round.  Freshman Sydney Righter (Camdenton, Mo.) followed at No. 15 with a +37 (179) at No. 15, while Junior Madison Mills (Willard, Mo.) was at No. 17 with a final score of +39 (181).  Freshman Victoria Menard Valera (Coruna, Spain) finished out the team scorers with a +44 (186) to place at No. 19.  Freshman Shelby Welling (Jefferson City, Mo.) played only the second round, and came in at +34 (105).

 

The Viking women's golf team placed third in the standings with a total score of +130 (698).  Mount Mercy (Iowa) won the tournament with a +94 (662), and Central Methodist (Mo.) was second with a +126 (694).

 

Up next, the Viking golf teams will host the Missouri Valley Spring Invite, at Indian Foothills Golf Course, April 7-8.
